Size wise it is. You could fit three Englands in just one of my state, which is Michigan. Now the UK is not a country, but a collection of countries, so I am a little confused here as to what you all are saying.

Its the population size that matters and I believe the U.K. 62 million people which is much bigger than Michigan. The United Kingdom is a country because its uniifed state(maybe not if Scotland leaves, but that's either here nor there), with one head of state, The Queen, and one head of governement David Cameron. Northern Ireland was never a country is actually classifed as a province and Wales only recently classified as a country as before it was called a prinpalitiy, hence the title Prince of Wales for the Queen's eldest child and heir. England and Scotland being historically indepedent kingdoms have always been called countries. Hence why the UK is often called "countries with a country".
