Forums - Gaming - The Console that got me into JRPGS...

Dragon Warrior was my first experience with the genre my uncle got it with his Nintendo Power subscription (creating a life long fan of the genre). Playing that game as a 5 year old kid was quite the task (didn't beat the game till years later).

You need to play Persona 4 Golden! Amazing JRPG.

SNES was my real introduction, but it was the PS1 that indulged the obsession. Was like flood gates opening with all the JRPGs of that time. The PS1/PS2 era was brilliant, especially in retrospect, for the genre.

NES for me. I tried and didn't like Dragon Warrior, but FF was much more fun. The SNES is where my love for the genre really took off though, especially FFIV. PS1&2 were hotbeds for the genre. 360's selection is actually pretty weak. I preferred Wii's Last Story and Xenoblade, even if the graphics were in SD.

The Shooter Box 360 is the WORST console for JRPGs despite a gem or two.

PS3 honestly not much better except the Tales series and the absolutely gorgeous and incredible Ni no Kuni and I feel bad because I know I'm missing others.

Last couple generations have been about catering to the mainstream dude bro Call of Duty casuals and JRPGs have all but died or moved to PSP/DS.

SNES and PS1 uncontested in the JRPG department.

Every once in a while something like Ni no Kuni or Bravely Default or Xenoblade Chronicles comes out and reminds me that it's not just simple nostalgia.

The NES for me. Final Fantasy was the first game I owned for it. I was also into the 4 Dragon Warrior games on it. The Magic of Scheherazade also had some JRPG type battles in addition to a largely Zelda/Willow style gameplay. Other than that, though, the JRPG didn't really come into its own until the SNES days.

Yep. Started with SNES, ended with PS1.

The console that got me into JRPGs (hell, RPGs in general) was the original NES. Played the original Final Fantasy and was hooked ever since.

PlayStation. Final Fantasy VII

CPU: Ryzen 9950X3D
GPU: MSI 4090 SUPRIM X 24G
Motherboard: MSI MEG X670E GODLIKE
RAM: CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM 32GB DDR5
SSD: Kingston FURY Renegade 4TB
Gaming Console: PLAYSTATION 5 PRO

Mine was the SNES. Final fantasy III/VI was the first JRPG that I played, and I became a fan of the series and the genre.
