360 got you into jrpgs?? Man I'm old...

The GameCube with Megaman X: Command Mission by Capcom. That introduced me to the typical turn based jrpg battle system, and what made the transition to FFX seem seamless to me as a kid.

Current Consoles: Gaming PC, Wii U, 3DS

Make a poll?

Gameboy Advance GBA got me into RPG's, like you I played Pokemon, Super Mario RPG and Paper Mario before it, but it wasn't until GBA came out with Golden Sun and Fire Emblem did I really get into JRPG's. Fire Emblem is now probably my favorite franchise, and because so many SNES games got remade onto the GBA, the SNES also marked my starting point into JRPG's. GBA was just such a great system, FF 1,2, 4-6, Breath of Fire 1-2, 3x Fire Emblems, 2 Golden Suns, Pokemon Blue/Red remakes, Shining Force, Sword of Mana, FFTA, etc.

Only now am I just getting into PS1 JRPG's, and I LOVE THEM. Played a bit of XenoGears and Chrono Cross in the past, and I'm excited to dive into them. However I still have a lot on my PS3/360/Wii, so I have to pace myself. No plans to get a PS4 any time soon.

Mine was PS2

If Paper Mario TTYD is a JRPG, then the GC did.

Tales of Symphonia on Gamecube got me into JRPGs. Was a magical experience.

Was the Xbox 360.
I realized tonight that the Xbox 360 was the console that got me into playing JRPGs. Sure I played Pokemon and am a huge fan of the series, but I wouldn't consider it a hardcore JRPG (if you do, please don't kill me).

I can admit.. I was/kinda still am a massive casual. I'm 21 and started playing JRPGs on the 360. Games like Tales of Vesperia, Lost Odyssey (my favorite), Magna Carta 2, Eternal Sonata, and a few others really had a huge impact on my gaming tastes today. I've missed soooo many great JRPGs. Also have only played the FF 13 series out of the whole FF series, haven't played the Wii's JRPGs, bought them though (Xenoblade and The Last Story).

It wasn't a Final Fantasy on the PS2, or other PS2 JRPGs that got me into this genre, but way later into the 7th gen on the most unlikely console. I still have tons of JRPGs to play such as the aforementioned Wii games, and a lot of FF games, KH, as well as the FF X, Persona, Symphonia, etc.

Anyone else have any familiar story? What console got you into JRPGS? Just wanted to share :)

pick up a used nes/snes/ps1/ps2 off ebay and go wild with the ebay purchases, or grab some roms and emulators.

A shame you missed out on the PS1 era - the golden age of JRPGs.

I liked them on PS1, and PS2. Beyond that I generally think JRPGS are banal and boring. I am certainly older than you.
