Forums - Microsoft - MS potentially cutting up to 6k jobs, Xbox EU Marketing possibly part of cuts

Not good, probably nothing to worry about though.

That's not good. I guess the poor Europe X1 sales is the reason for this.

nope, most likely the purchase of a certain phone vendor which would have brought with it a lot of european staff, including a lot of device marketing people. you can't have 2 large companies merge and not expect some overlap.

Wow, that sucks. That is a lot of jobs if true. Funny how people were making fun of Sony a couple of months ago and now Microsoft is cutting 6000 jobs (if true), ironic huh.

I dont think you know what ironic means?

Because I fail to see the irony in a compariosn between a company cutting jobs to try and somehow get profitable and also because it is leaving core markets...

against another company cutting jobs to become more efficient within a new business it has just acquired, more lean in existing businesses and all to help it continue in its core markets and maintain that $6bn in profits it makes every quarter.

or perhaps you were just trying to make a weak console warz point?

Its the same thing, Both companies cutting the fat in order to make a bigger gain. MS is like Sony and Sony is like MS.

It's the opposite.  Perhaps you should read the full article I just posted.  Just acquired 30,000 Nokia staff, you can bet the vast bulk of losses are there.

...then tune in next week for the full year and quarter results.

The more I listen to Nedella, the more I am impressed.

^^^ this, it would be far more concerning if after such a massive purchase that such a shuffle and thinning did not occur as there will be many areas of overlap with people doing the same job in the same region. It is sad for those that will lose their jobs but a sign of well run enterprise is that it keep on top of costs and efficiency regardless of how profitable they already are, in the end they are a business and you don't just keep redundant staff on the books to be nice.

You think Sony will go out of business? That wasn't the case and they were just trimming the fat so how is this different from what is happening now to Micrsoft. Fanboys were saying Sony is doomed etc, etc because they cut jobs but they weren't going out of business just like now Microsoft is cutting jobs but now going out of business. It's ironic because of the fanboys saying Sony was doomed just for cutting jobs when the same thing is happening to Microsoft. You can say whatever you want but Sony was never going to go out of business a couple of months ago. Also just because the whole division is making profit doesn't mean sub divisions are also making profit.

No.  Where did I or anyone say that?

The rest of your post and the terminology used proves you know little on this subject so i wont sicuss it with you further.  To even have this as part of the discussion here is ludicrous.  Its chalk and cheese.

I wasn't replying to you, I was trying to reply to LudiciousSpeed, he said Sony was broke, I don't think he knows what broke means. And I also have no idea what terminology I used because they were basic words. Oh but of course you know everything, just because you say so. You think the Nokia division was making profit? Hahahahaha....hahaha..ha.......ha.
I guess you don't remember Sony Santa Monica, when they laid off a bunch of people because they weren't getting their project done correctly so they laid them off or when they laid off some people from different studios, they were just trimming the fat.

Nokia division?

no such thing

when did MS acquire Nokia?  do you know?  is it a trick question?  think carefully...

Like I said.  You havent a clue what you are talking about.

And yes... I am very knowledgable on this... what of it?

Wow, you are so full of yourself. Lmao wow Nokia division, or whatever it's called but you know what i'm talking about. You just want to sound like a know it all. They acquired Nokia last year and to save money, they have to lay off these 6000 people to meet their goal. But go ahead and find something wrong with my "termonlogy" to make yourself think you are smart lmao, damn you are funny.

lmao.  right. ok. if you say so.

"a bigger gain" interesting use of a phrase where Sony financial are concerned.

Sony and MS are not similar in any way shape or form from a business and economic perspective.  One is high revenue, low margin (negative margin often) and struggling to make a dime.  The other is high revenue, high margin and making huge profits month in, month out.

Indeed i do say so.

Both companies no longer have to pay XXXX employees. So it is indeed " a big gain" ( royaly sucks for those who lost thier jobs)

FYI i put in Sony as an example because this is a gaming site and they also trim down, but i could have used any other company and would amount to the same for me.

they just bought another huge company with 25k employees, they aren't going to keep the doubles.
