Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Momentum Shift For Xbox One. Still Work To Be Done.

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/microsoft-sees-xbox-one-momentum-shift/0135242

Xbox One's difficult start is still well and truly behind it, Microsoft has said.

Discussing elements such as the dropping of Kinect, the recent price drop and the beefed-up Xbox One Games With Gold offer, Xbox UK marketing boss Harvey Eagle told CVG: "It's the cumulative effect of all those things over a period of time that has seen this momentum shift for us.

"The change started to happen when Titanall was released in March, it's been a hugely successful title and the start of what I believe to be is the momentum shift.

"There's still work to do to increase sales. The momentum shift is something to be encouraged by, but certainly there's more work to be done. We do need to see this grow and continue over a period of time. With such a strong line up of games coming out over the next six months, I think that's going to increase momentum."

Eagle also stated that Microsoft is still very much targeting the No.1 spot for this generation.

"Market share is certainly very important,” he added. “Microsoft is a very ambitious company, and we want to be number one. We're in this for the long-term and the company is committed to making that happen.”

It's undoubtedly true that the many forum users declaring that PS4 has already won this generation are being extremely premature. The PS3 was in a very bad way for the first few years of its life but eventually recovered to achieve parity with Xbox 360.

PS4 is of course in a strong position right now. But less than a year into the cycle there's a long, long way to go yet – although Microsoft would certainly alleviate concerns were it to release some more recent hardware sales numbers.

I'm not sure if he's talking about the UK only or the world...

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.

The main benefit is that losing always brings out the best in console players. Launching in September and hopefully a $50 price cut will have X1 find its footing.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Its good that they're targeting the No.1 spot, but they have no chance of reaching it this gen.

UK only.   it has to be UK only..

If he's talking UK, which he probably is then No1 is achievable if all the stars align for MS. Globally not a chance, even with a lackluster Japan for PS4 the global die has been cast.

Momentum shift started with Titanfall? so what was the situation before it? they had sold over 3 million Xbones in the first 3 months, then the momentum needed a shift already? oh dear....

Not that I don't agree that PS4 will remain #1 globally...   But to say the die has been cast when the Xbox One isn't available globally is interesting.  With the shift in focus, and lower price before the "worldwide" release of Xbox One in September(When it goes from being in just 13 markets to around 40 - still about 15 less then PS4) I think they are in a better position to make up so ground.

We all know that PlayStation is more of a "global" brand for console gaming. So X1 likely won't surpass the PS4. The X360 had NA and UK to help fill that global gap, which right now is in PS4's favor. But again.. just 8 months in..  8 MONTHS PEOPLE.. NOT EVEN A YEAR..  we can't be saying anything is set in stone..

That's mainly because the claim that the One isn't available globally is a misconception, a hollow claim if you will.  There's an absurd amount of data suggesting/confirming that the One is available in any country to those who want it (whether MS has officially released in that country or not).  A very simple way to know this is that you have XB1 exclusive games, ranking on charts in countries where the One hasn't even launched yet.  South Africa, for example, had Titanfall (XB1), rank on their sales charts, when it launched.

And it's even more easily accessible in European/Asian territories, because many of those retailers spread the hardware around, especially when it's just sitting on shelves.

Mostly true...

BUT, M$ is spending its marketing $$$ there yet.  They aren't coop advertising or creating special deals to advertise their yet.  The system localization and content isn't supporting those areas either.  They will probably have some regional indie focused games for those areas too.  Many things that make owning a modern console really worth it.  Also, they will push (whether shooters matter their) the Halo connection at or near launch too.

It is near the end of the end....
