And even with these pre-orders, it seems impossible for destiny to break even.

30 million sales (500 million $) is way too much for a new IP

That 500 million is for 10 years.

So including 10 years server maintenance, patch, additionnal content etc ?

Why would they include that in the budget before the game releases ?

*shrug* I just know that its not for one game.

It's supposed to be for just one game, because 360 million are for marketing this first Destiny (140 for development). I don't know if I believe Activision is actually spending that much on marketing alone..seems awfully crazy. But if it's true then yes, 500 just for this first game. Though technically marketing for the first game also "works" in favor of future titles, i suppose.

Which is why it's not a $500 million game.

OT: Destiny continues its trek!

Bungie says it's not 500 millions, while activision CEO says it's 500 millions.

I'll trust the guys that actually invested in the game and manage the marketing part.

Seems no one wants to actually read what Bungie said about that budget, from my previous post, so here it is again. :P

He says it himself; he doesn't know how much the marketing budget is. So it can still be 500 overall

This is gonna be OT but.. hw numbers for new week are up on the Tools section, someone care to create thread? i'm on mobile and can't even see the numbers because it doesn't work properly on Chrome

It sounds more reasonable at least. Thanks for the insight.

Why do you think they only get $16 per game, anyway? It should be closer to $30. So that's about 16m to break even, if the $500m budget is true.

Tomb raider broke even with an estimated budget of 100 million with 6 million sales. (15-16 $ per game)

At least half the cost of the game goes to distribution, and console manufacturers take their part too.

I don't know what happened with TR (that budget probably doesn't include marketing), but this is the standard breakdown:

Destiny on Xbone is doing great, good to see it not that far behind the PS4 version. 360 version doing solid also.
