I can only give anecdotal evidence, but my 6 year old son is in elementary school now and all the whole school talks about is Youkai Watch.

The games, comics, medals, cards, stickers, stamps, figurines, lunch boxes, plush toys, stationery etc are literally everywhere.

Last week I bought a bath additive that reveals a youkai medal when it dissolves in the bath water.

If it's a fad, it's a huge one!
