There is no need for Diddy kong Racing when Mario Kart 8 just released.

Nintendo would entirely miss the point and would waste an enormous amount of time and money on a pointless move if that happen. They should use their ressources towards developping other games.

Yeah, because you can only have one game in a genre per console. Any more than that is blasphemy. *eyeroll* There is no "point." There's a good game and the people willing to buy it.

If this is true then I'm done with Retro.

Two 2D games and a Mario Kart clone? No thanks, haven't bought any DKC games and will not buy this.

If you actually played the original Diddy Kong Racing, you wouldn't be calling it a Mario Kart clone.

For the kart genre, there is absolutely only the need for one game per console.

Agreed

Much rather have Retro be focusing completely on Metroid

If we are talking about sales, Metroid may be a even bigger waste of ressources, eventough it would please lot of fans.

A HD, realistic, atmospheric Metroid title would definitely get a fair portion of people to pick up a Wii U. So even if the game itself wouldn't sell in the millions, it will bring more business to Nintendo. DK Racing would be a great software seller, but I don't think it can do anything for the system that Mario Kart hasn't already... Its hard to call, but I would say a Metroid game would be the better investment.

At this point though, I really think Retro should be working on launch titles for Nintendo's next system (2017)

The existence of MK8 means DKR's niche is filled, and it would not move any hardware because anyone who'd buy a Wii U for DKR2 would have already bought one for MK8. Hence, it would be a waste of Retro's time and talent.

Such a relief to see all this Metroid love.
Looks like Metroid from Retro is something a lot expect and want. Unlike other games.

Althought, if done well, I'll buy DKR2 since day 1. MK8 can wait for 2 or 3 years more.

It's a crappy game, don't need to play it to see that. Watched plenty of gameplay footage on youtube.

Never got the hype of the old Rare games anyway, they all seem like collect-a-tons to me... Bad ones. DK64 doesn't even make sense.

Says who, exactly? What about the kart genre makes it an inferior avenue for diversity compared to other genres?

Yeah, because the same thing totally happened with the original DKR.

Different time, different expectations. This isn't the 1990s, one cartoon kart racer is enough. People want something more ambitious from their new HD console.
