Forums - Sony - LittleBigPlanet, Priced & Could be the PS3's Biggest Game

LBP looks like a very fun game, but it's showing all the signs of an under-appreciated cult classic, and even inventing entirely new ones.

There are at least two games coming to the PS3 this year that will sell at least 3M, and I can just barely see LBP ever hitting a million if it's lucky. It boggles the mind how anyone could consider it the biggest game of the year, even in PR speak.

Barely hitting 1,000,000? Visuals alone will sell this game to children. I dont see how it will hit 3million either, but it will definitely break the 1,000,000 barrier early on, and game quality will decide from there. I cant see it being the biggest game of the year either, especially being released in the crowded holiday season.

If they advertise it well, and I mean properly, they could easily sell over a million. I'll probably get it, hoping for a bit cheaper though but i'm sure i can find it cheaper the £45.

Hmm, pie.

The fact that it's going to have a full story mode is great news.

I think LBP will sell surprisingly well on the PS3. The interest is huge amongst the online communities.

This should be a giant, red, flashing, whirring, whining alarm.

This most certainly is the biggest game this year. I am getting it day one. If it does get a september release, it will comfortable sell 1M copies by the end of 08.

If I'm proven wrong I'm proven wrong, but I'll make my statement quite clearly:

People who think this game will be huge are out of touch with reality and the mass market. I think the people who think this game will be huge are the type of people who thought Wii Fit would fail.

Please keep in mind that LBP is easily my most anticipated game this year (unless Afrika resurfaces).

1-2 million copies would be my guess. That makes it a good seller, but not blockbuster quality. Around what RE4: Wii edition or Red Steel ended up doing.

I don't think it will bomb outright, but it's only going to ironically appeal to the hardcore gamers that are on the net visiting forums like this.

LBP does not feature guns, burly men, ninjas, ninjas with guns, the military, realistic car models, big guns, a storyline with lots of men in heroic situations, stealth guns, swords, or bullets. What it is, is a unique 2d platformer with adorable graphics. And because of that it's going to turn off a very large portion of the PS3s demographic outside of enthusiasts that have been following the game on the web since it's inception. I don't see the average 18 year old COD4, or resistance fan seeing LBP and thinking "SWEET, I've been wanting an adorable looking 2d platformer that I can use to trade levels with my buddies!" I think it looks like an awesome game, but I just don't think it's going to be the phenomenon that people on the interwebs think it will be.
The developers said it would have ninjas and pirates.  They've already shown the pirates.

Other info from eurogamer:

If they want this to be big ... I'd create a pack-in, specifically with the 40GB, and have that as a permanent SKU from here till the end of the gen. It could be PS3's "Wii Sports" package.

Actually I agree with this 100%.  I am saving for my wedding in June, but if this was packaged in with the PS3, and a price drop happened around christmas, it would be one of the first things on my list.

Edit- Not to say whether or not it would be a "huge" seller, but it would certainly prod me closer to getting one, while we are leaning towards a 360 currently.

Oh and for everyone who thinks this is just going to be a kiddie title check out how many old people are intrested in the game.  http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=938583&topic=40776983
