I have never played a Final Fantasy game before. Well I am certain they are all great games, however RPG's require a lot of time to master.

Laguna was a cool character, I agree, VIII has always been an odd one out to me, IMO FF IX made up for everything, pure magical brilliance.

^squall wasnt that good--he tried to be a bad ass, but we know one punch from Zell (i mean the freaking dude caused the train to shake from a jab) would have broken in his skull

 Squall wasn't trying to be a bad ass.  He hated everything... life, people etc.  he was really pissed off.  I liked Squall for that reason.  He didn't want to be a leader or the hero... he was thrown into his role.  Squall is very complex and as you get to know him towards the end he becomes free - he finds himself.  

FF8 spoke to me alot...  I was quite angry at that stage of my life trying to make sense of life and everything around me... maybe I saw a little of myself in Squall :P  But Squall is a bad ass :P  You piss him off - It's Lionhart time :D   

Final Fantasy 8 wasn't bad, but for the perceived greatest RPG series of all time, "Not Bad" is not good enough. The game had some serious flaws, but after the end credits rolled, I had a major sense of accomplishment. I Think I'll "youtube" the ending right now!

FFVI was the last great FF game.  Everything since then has had amazing graphics, and little else.  The gameplay is always rock solid, but the main draws of an RPG is story and characters.  FF hasn't really had this since VI.  FFX was ok, and would have been great if they had replaced Tidus with someone who wasn't a whiny bitch. Same could be said for Cloud, Squall and Zidane.  Whiny bitches one and all.
