Forums - Nintendo - Here is why MK8 actually saved the Wii U-

Around the Network

I'm hearing a lot of buzz about the game from dudebros. This is the first Wii U title to touch this crowd. Definitely positive steps.

So thats the true meaning of its saving bringing us together to have fun in a beautiful colorful world not like games that are dark and grittylke cod and battlefield.

There meant to makes us have no worries :)

I'd argue that the local multiplayer of SM3DW is really fun -- however, it isn't really competitive in any respect which limits the replay value of it on multiplayer. At least NSMBU lets you benefit from being a dick to other players :)

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Also another thing is that Mario Kart 8, though attracts a lot of hardcores and unique players, has a lot to do with casuals. I bet the majority of Mario Kart Wii and Mario Kart 7 buyers bought it because they wanted a game to play for 10 mins and then put it down. They aren't the type that will buy the game or console when it's released, whether or not the bundle is great and the price is too. They will wait for holiday seasons. We'll probably see steady sales until November then really see them spike again. With Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2 coming out before Black Friday, Wii U will probably gain some more ground. But I think Mario Kart has really saved the Wii U, but the game is a time bomb that's going to really go off this holiday season

You're forgetting about the crown! That precious crown!

Signature goes here!

Though you said some very nice things. I don't like to think that a game saves a console. I think Mario Kart 8 sparked up the flame to finally get the Wii U going again and now they got to keep that flame up.

I don't like the local co op for MK8. I very much dislike split screen. I don't do split screen for any games, I refuse to. It was a bit disappointing to me because I was looking forward to local co op matches with buddies, but I was expecting to be able to use the gamepad as a separate screen.

Mario 3D World is awesome for local co op, I've had a lot of fun with it.

True that, it has some awesome moments like when I am first place near the finish line and my friend has a blue shell and I slap his arm so he drops the controller so I can be in first place! Good times! Leading to swearing and violent times but good times none the less

That is fun, but NSMBU lets you steal so much more from other players so much more easily (Lives, powerups, yoshi) and cause much more death to your felllow players with jumps, throws, and stomps. Using boost mode to block out your friends is pretty hilarious too.
