Wow I hope this hilarious discussion continues all gen.
Fun fact: Most Xbone games are 1080p. We are only reminded of the ones that aren't.

I wouldn't even count KZ multiplayer because the frame still is 1080p, just combining a partial new frame with an old one. BF4 was a broken mess and WD has terrible optimization on any platform, so in the end the console can handle it if the game isn't simply a bad version.
About X1, there is the tiling update to the SDK that will allow to divide a 1080p frame in parts and send one at time to the ESRAM. Anyway, how much of a performance impact it will have is unknown, but it certainly won't be a free lunch. Our infos says that PS4 has 50% more raw power and that is pretty on part with 1080p X 900p since you have 50% more pixels and the amount of power needed to increase resolution is close to the actual pixel increase (since most demanding graphical operations are done per-pixel: lightning, AA, etc).
If the tiling thing solves the issue, I'm counting on more 1080p games but with simpler visuals compared to PS4 (less AA, less light sources, less texture filtering, etc) or with worse framerate, but time will tell what will happen in this case.

Sorry, but Halo 2 is not going to be 1080p, 343 has already confirmed that they are having issues reaching that resolution due to rendering the game twice at the same time to switch between "classic" graphics, and the enhanced version on the fly. In any case the games that ARE hitting 1080p on Xbox One are less graphically intensive than games running at 1080p on the competition's console. |
How do you know Halo 2 isn´t goig to be 1080p?
How do you know the games hitting 1080p aren´t as graphically intensive?
I do think all these arguments are very silly, since gameplay will always be what matters. These kinds of threads are rarely started by XBox fans though, but it is annoying, especially since both these consoles reach 1080p, only to different degrees. Both consoles also have issues sometimes reaching it. So maybe this whole matter should be dropped, would you agree?
| jnemesh said: Again, you miss the point completely...and the fact that you didn't read the rest shows that you can't really debate intelligently in any case...but let me spell it out for you. The problem isn't that the games look or play poorly. The problem is that the PERCEPTION of the console, as a whole, is that it is underpowered...and the fact that you are ARGUING about it shows that it is, indeed, a problem. You can "defend" the console all you want...it's not going to change the facts on the ground....and that is that the Xbox One is perceived as inferior by the buying public. Rant about it all you want, it is not going to sell one more console for Microsoft. |
If you say the buying public is composed only by VGChartz and NeoGaf users, then you are right.
But as you know about the stuff, would you mind tell me what people perceives as more powerfull, the iPhone 5s or the Galaxy S5?
Sony has the more powerful system again this gen, They just made it easier to work on this time around. A more powerful console does not make a system better, exclusive content does that. PS3 had the more powerful system last gen but struggled to make multiplats look good, but their exclusives were their saving grace.
This gen MS will either need to make more exclusives via first party, or purchase them from third party. (Not really a big deal) but they need to have exclusive content that can only be played on their system. Nintendo has kept their systems afloat by 1st party games alone since 3rd party is non existent.
To further clarify my point about purchasing 3rd party exclusives, I never saw a problem with a company doing this. If MS is going to front the cost to make a game exclusive to their system, at least they are keeping developers working. This was MS gameplan in the PC area, they just created the software, and let the hardware manufactures compete against each other. Until recently with the Surface, and Phone.
I think MS will have to just enjoy 2nd place. One benefit for MS is that I think this gen will be cut short due to 4k TV's on the horizon. Also if the surface pro's are any indication of what MS can make in terms of hardware, then next gen should be pretty interesting. I actually see Nintendo coming back really strong next gen also.
Hooray for gamers!

I'm playing Sniper Elite 3 right now on Xbone, did I spill some secret sauce in there or something? It's native 1080p.

It's much more easier for PS4 to reach Native 1080p than it is for Xbox One, due to the PS4 having a superior GPU & 8 GB's of GDDR5 RAM that's dedicated towards graphics. Sony designed the PS4 for Native 1080p gaming, Microsoft didn't.
While Xbox One can also hit Native 1080p w/60 FPS, it's not going to come very smoothly without performance issues, like awful framerates (constant framerate drops, etc). It's happened with games like Forza 5.
It'll most likely be the same way if future 3rd party games gets more graphically intensive (which they no doubt will). Over time, Xbox One will struggle more in that department thanks to the huge bottleneck of having a much weaker GPU.
