Forums - Microsoft - Kinect sensor coming to Windows on July 15th 200 dollars

Microsoft is expanding its sales of the motion-sensing periphera by bringing  Xbox One’s Kinect sensor to Windows, and this is happening soon.

Just over a week  from now, you will be able to get your hands on the second generation Kinect for Windows.

The company has updated its pre-order listing with the promise of shipment by July 15th. The sensor, which costs $199/£159, delivers better depth sensing, 1080p resolution, a wider field of view and various other improvements.

Developers have been invited to publish their creations to the Windows Store, so there’ll likely be more Windows Kinect apps to download than ever before .

This is good news if you’re not phased by the Xbox One but have always wanted to wave your arms about in front of your PC.

so a better camera with thermals and infared wouldn't further advance these uses? youre right. sorry that the existing kinect is better than this one and no one in will find a use for the improved camera in any fields. Who wants a bloody drone that can see in the dark, no one, not a single person ever.

Why are they doing this again?

The sarcasm is strong with this one. If these fields need a 200$ gaming accessory to advance, then maybe what theyre doing is not that important...

Now we can see some innovation... Game devs seemed to have hit a wall or be having brain farts, when it comes to M$'s shiny new toy.

Maybe you should try doing a YouTube search on something like... "Kinect medical uses".

MS just puts it on the PC for developers to play with and it seems there have been a lot of interesting uses of the technology. The importance of what people do with it is subjective.

I don't think there is a lack of ideas. There simply just isn't much interest in motion games.

PS Move for example is a device with more potential and less support. I don't see much interest in the Wii Balance Board either.

I saw some stuff that looked cool, but if a doctor pulled out a Kinect before operating on me, I would have alot of questions about his education and the hospital in general. Maybe its great, but someone could make a camera like that without having the mental image of your doctor playing Kinect Sports before you doze off.
