Love comments like these. They assume that I'm attacking when my post has absolutely nothing to do with their precious company.

The attack on you were silly... altough I understand the 4 in 10 so people can calculate the percentage easier... but they say the same so don't make a difference in the end. Probably the person understood that you said sony haven't done 10 but just 5 games, that is dumb.

Well that's just dumb, in actuality he's the one that's attacking Sony by thinking that's what I meant. lol

People are dumb, some exceeds all boundaries. Not saying it is the case of this guy.

God of war ascension took $50 million to make. The last of us had to sell a lot to cover these poor performers. I cant blame Sony saying, expect fewer AAA games.

This is why I STILL believe, in the long run, Nintendo will be proven right. Pushing hardware to the edge was a bad idea. Yes, we all love shiny graphics and better AI, but not at the cost of the industry failing which is what will happen if we don't change gears collectively.

They always support talent? Liar! Sony didn't sponsor Bayonetta, and also not a new game from Platinum, like MS and Nintendo both did.

And how many other studios are MS/nintendo supporting?

Whats the point going on a third party support spree when you already have your hands full with your own studios. Besides, sony already has from software being "supported" by them. Let nintendo have bayonetta and MS have scalebound.

I always knew Sony wasn't greedy. And they always supported talent since the PS1 days, so many games that could be called indie started back in those days. Very good to know they will put Talent always first and just then the rest.

Yeah, thats one of the reasons why i like them, they always support games that are actually great but they dont promote said games, theres almost no marketing for those games and therefore they dont sell really well... games like Disgaea, Yakuza, The Guided Fate Paradox etc.

its hard to say that this games would sell well with marketing (because of how niche they are), but they are good games that i enjoy and im glad they support them.

If you expect to not have profit and that it's niche you can't put much money on advertising.

i said that in my comment, and i appreciate that despite knowing that this games (more than likely with or whitout marketing) wont sell well, Sony still supports them.

Keep the games coming, with the inovative up.

I guess this is why we got Heavy Rain. Sony in this case did support the talent to create a new IP. Sony took a risk on Heavy Rain and it paid off, some you win some you lose. Just to add this game could have been an MS exclusive.

David Cage, says that the only reason it was able to become a "commercial success" was because Sony had enough "balls" to take a risk on the Quantic Dream developed product.

"Publishers in general don't have balls," he said. "That's a fact. They want a safe bet. They look at what was successful last year, and ask you to do the same. You need to give them reasons to trust you... With a game like Heavy Rain, it comes together very late. If I showed you the alpha of Heavy Rain, you'd probably kill it and say that it would never happen. Many publishers would have killed that game at that stage. Sony didn't."

"Very few developers take risks, or have opportunities to do so. But the market is ready for that ... now I can say that for sure. Heavy Rain is a commercial success, which is something that nobody at Sony or [Quantic Dream] expected, to be honest with you."

Quantic Dream's Guillaume de Fondaumiere revealed to a Digital Dragons audience in Poland today that PlayStation 3 exclusive Heavy Rain cost just €16.7 million to make

With Sony's marketing and distribution on top, the total spend looked something like €40 million. But, Fondaumiere said, "Sony earned more than €100 million with this game. It's very profitable."

Are you sure Ascension cost $50mil, sounds like too much to be honest. I think God of War 3 was upwards of $30mil.

Uncharted 1 and 2 cost $20m to make (+ marketing)

Each game sold over 5m. Chop 1m off the top of both and assume $20 for Sony per game given bundling and discounts

Each of those games mode over double their budget. Some of that goes to expanding the studio and some of it goes to helping other studios to do something more risky

It's also good to see them rewarded with more creative freedom after making lots of money! With the Last of Us it worked, with others it won't. Keep the long term view

And I hate those vulgar fractions too!!! 2/5 ftw
