Forums - Gaming - Anyone else feel games without achievements/trophies are a waste of time?

I'm a bit mixed towards trophies. I do like having them on display for everyone to see, but sometimes I could not care less for them. If I have a game I know I can platinum, I do it. But I'm not someone who wants to aim level 20 or 30. I just go at my own pace.

There is an unsettling trend with the games I platinum, and it's that I barely touch them anymore.

Trophies/achievements are there for the people who want to complete them, so it's not much of a waste of time. It's a nice extra for the competitive players.

Yeah I think the same thing. I don't feel motivated to play and complete games without achievements.

wow Thats quite serious...

I wonder if it makes them question if they are actually playing good games because it kind of makes me wonder that, hearing everyone talk about it. Or do you just find a decent enough game and then just go for the next medal... and the next medal.

No, I'm not obsessed with achievements. I usually don't even bother getting most of them if they are too hard. I just feel more of an urge to finish off games if you can get them.

I actually felt this way once. Luckily I snapped out of it and now only play games for the fun factor. I only use trophies / achievements as a way to get more enjoyment out of an already good game.

well, im still playing psone classics and SNES games so...

I like trophies but I tried getting bad games with easy trophies (like terminator) and hated it. Wont be doing that again.
But in any decent game, trophies are fun to collect most of the time. On PC I dont bother because its fragmented because of the different platforms like origin, Uplay and steam... and the fact that I dont game a lot on PC.

Trophies...
Complete act 1, act 2, act 3, act 4567
Collect all X
Complete on X difficulty.

= Virtual points nobody cares about!

I feel bad for you. You must've never had fun with any game before last generation.

Don't be silly. Of course he had fun before that, it's just that those little pop-up notifications really opened his eyes to what a videogame should be, and now he can never look back.

Personally I'm not that bothered but many people seem to like them and they do little harm. I think Nintendo should get on board just because it's what some people want, and might boost sales of games. Maybe give a nice boost vc sales.

Whist I don't personally see the point a trophy for every little random thing I think some a list of what games you've completed and what games you've 100%ed would be a nice thing to scroll through and share.

They're a neat little addition, but they add very little to the experience. I prefer not to have them because looking at the list can spoil the story. If the best thing about your games are the trophies, you're probably not playing very entertaining games.

The Last of Us handled trophies very well in this regard. I think I got one trophy through the entire first playthrough and from what I understand that was pretty much the norm for most people who played it. No dings to distract from the story etc.

That said I do love Trophies in my games and try my best to play games on my console, with the exception of FPSs, so that I can get those Trophies. Once I get through teh story I then usually try to finish off those left over Trophy challenges so I can get that almight Platinum. So while games without aren't totally a waste of time I'd rather play my games with them included.
