Forums - Movies & TV - X-Men : Days of Future past is the best X-Men movie out of all of them - spoiler alert

To clarify the issue of Xavier and Beasts cure... for me personally it is not that fact that it conflicts with x3 that bothers me. I'm more than willing to pretend x3 never happened, my real problem with beast and Charles "cure" is that it is such a lazy and transparent plot device. In this move they seem to have come up with scenes they wanted and then built convenient logic around those scenes rather than trying to write better scenes. They wanted the scene where Wolverine has to "convince" Xavier that he was from the future so they had to remove his powers. And why does it give him the ability to walk as well? Well, because Xavier has to be involved in some action scenes in this movie. And the actor who played beast probably didn't want to be in makeup all the time so he gets a convenient cure as well.

Also convenient, Kitty prides brand new powers that have absolutely nothing to do with her old powers. Why? Because Hugh Jackman is the biggest star and the movie has to revolve around him so instead of sending kitty pride back in time we'll give her bizarre powers that we won't even bother explaining and send Wolverine back in time instead.

Quicksilver is also only in the film to screw with marvel studios, seeing as how he seems like an afterthought. His scene was cool but it was completely out of place in the movie. He comes then he goes. Why not keep him around? And of course, why break Magneto out of jail in the first place. They are breaking out the most dangerous mutant on the planet, could the writers not come up with a better reason than "He needs to give Mystique a good talking to"...? Just really sloppy writing all around.

I didn't hate the film. There were a lot of aspects I liked about it but the sloppy writing really ruined it for me.

I understand your points but Kitty's power were Rachel, why they needed to have Kitty have them is beyond me however, you can only travel back in time in your own mind, so Kitty couldn't go back (like the original story) as she wasn't alive in 1973.

And the idea was that Mystique being confronted by just one or the other, wouldn't work as she needs to see that they were working together for the better of mutant kind.

Hmm, pie.

Xavier's powers are telepathy not telekinesis. Its jean gray that has both.

I personally did not like the movie very much. There were way too many convenient plot points. Why did they even really need to break Magneto out of jail? The whole thing about Xavier and beast having magical mutant cures was obviously for emotional beats and not because it makes any sense.

Quicksilver scene was decent but over hyped. Nowhere near as cool as nightcrawlers. I'm sick and tired of wolverine being the center of every damn X-men movie. And I also hate the mute characters that every X-men movie has to have where they show a bunch of mutants but give them next to no lines. I wish Josh Whedon would've directed the xmen films they would have been so much better. Whedon is actually a bigger x-men fan than an avengers fan. I would've loved to see what he could do.

Except a cure for mutancy is why Hank goes all beasty in the first place. Without Mystique around to flirt and boost his confidence in his new appearance how long did you think it would be before he started working on a cure again?  That seems like a natural extension of the character they built up in First Class to me.

*Spoilers* In the end Magneto didn't talk her out of anything, he did more damage than good and even tried to kill her. Xavier helped her on his own so in the end Magneto wasn't really needed after all.

Fassbender's magneto was probably the best thing about the movie so I'm glad they did break him out, I just wish they had given more believable reasons as to why it needed to be done.

He should have continued looking for the cure but never found it. That conflict is one of the central aspects of the character. If he finds a cure then you are taking away the characters most compelling story arc.

They aren't taking it away. He is still going throuhg the arc. Just way earlier.
