It looks as if, according to some sources, that Sony is just not in the same financial place that they were in in the 7th Gen to keep pushing out in-house exclusive after exclusive in the 8th gen to be the winner at the end of the 8th gen in the same fashion as they did in the 7th Gen with PS3. Especially not with Microsoft putting so much emphasis and money into exclusives for the Xbox One. One would think this could be a problem for Playstation 4 going forward.
However, Sony totally dominated the 6th Gen due to third party exclusives and very little of their dominating performance in the 6th gen was brought about by having a siginificant amount of shining 1st and 2nd party exclusives.
Unfortunately, during the 7th gen, due to initially poor Playstation 3 sales, these same third parties that enabled Sony to win the 7th Gen in such a commanding fashion switched over to making Xbox versions of their games as well.
Thus far, Sony's Playstation 4 has been the dominant console of the 8th Gen. Do you think there's any way that PS4 could outsell the other consoles in such a fashion that they could earn back the type of exclusive third party support that allowed PS2 to literally crush its competition? And what do you think the magic number would be for Playstation that would bring all those developers back to Playstation with such strong support that it would offset Microsoft's dedication to upcoming exclusives and allow PS4 to dominate the 6th gen in the same fashion PS2 did the 6th with third party exclusives like Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Metal Geat Solid, etc?
