They're spinning pretty hard but the push they're making seems even smaller than last time, i'm not sure its worth making the effort, and spending all that money, to launch another Xbox there. Seems like pride to me.

Time will only tell if it's worth investing in Japan.

Xbox 360 even with its heavy Japanese support sold less than Xbox did. And with consoles becoming more irrelavant there it'll be even worse.

2 million to 1.6 million to barely a million

I predict XBox One will not break 1 million life time sales in Japan. The XBox 360 was lucky to break 1.5 million sales in Japan. The Original XBox barely sold 500k in Japan. 750k to 1 million sales of XBox One in Japan. Bit more than XBox but a lot less than the XBox 360.

Japan is a dead market to consoles. The WiiU does the best, even with a fraction of the install base of the PS3 it is the only console to put up respectable sellers in terms of software. The charts are absolutely DOMINATED by handhelds, and the articles I've read indicate that the Japanese see home console gaming as inherently wasteful and uncool. Add to that the limited space, aging population who are busier than ever (MANY less young people than even the '00s!), and something like a gigantic 40,000 yen VCR-looking monstrosity is going to go over like a leaky reactor. The Japanese will run away screaming, or die from apoplexy after laughing until they asphyxiate.

I voted 500k, and I think I just clicked that to be generous.

And for that matter, PS4 may sputter to life a bit over there, but not in any truly relevant way.

Home console + Japan = RIP.
