Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo Believes Third Party Developers Will Come Back To The Wii U If Sales Increase

Will they ever return?

Yes, because of the money 71 67.62%

No because Wii U is too weak!!! 34 32.38%

Total:105

So it launched in 2012, now it's 2014 and the sales are starting to go up a little, if there's going to be a significant rise it will be holiday 2015, so at that point the third parties will deem it worthy and start development of games that will take two years, putting third part support incoming somewhere around 2017, or, the likely end of the Wii U's life.

That ship has sailed. This is a first-party Nintendo/indie machine. And I'm very okay with that.

I expect Ubi to continue the Rayman series and make it for Wii U as well because Wii U version sold a decent percentage compared to the larger install base of the Xb360 and PS3. The consoles that have around a 12 time larger install base.

Exactly. If a publisher estimates that a Wii U release will be profitable they'll make it.

With the exception of EA (BF 3, NFS, Crysis 3 and sports games) and Take 2 (GTA V and sports games) I think that western 3rd parties have provided strong support for the Wii U up until now and if enough Wii U owners buy their games and make them profitable they'll continue doing so.

Yes but they have to increase the sales themselves which its hard for them to do by themselves. I really hope that Nintendo buys a lot of developers so that if their next console so if third party abandons Nintendo again, we won't have such big release windows in between games

EA aren't going to "come back".

Rockstar/Bethesda were never there in the first place.

Which third parties do they wish to attract back now? The ones who are already porting stuff that would run on the system and sells well to the userbase there (Ubisoft - Just Dance; Activision - Skylanders) and are also porting stuff that doesn't seem to make any financial sense (Assassin's Creed/Call of Duty respectively).

Or maybe we're talking Japanese third parties. Like Konami, who aren't doing much of anything these days. Or Namco, who are supporting WiiU?

I don't understand what he means by this comment at all.

But I'm going to summarize/end my post by saying: The Wii's sales weren't enough to entice third parties on board. What makes them think given the WiiU's currently abysmal sales that a small-medium uptick is suddenly going to change their mind?

Silly.

But it's not. Only EA and Take 2 aren't supporting but if no one buys their games the other will follow. I'm a Wii U owner myself but I'm sick of people complaing about no 3rd party support and at the same time refusing to buy 3rd party games because "they're inferior to first party titles". :S

Third parties will not come with increased console sales. They didn't do well with the Wii and it had the biggest installed base. They are not there because of weak sales, they are not there because their games don't sale well regardless how successful Nintendo's consoles are.

suport will come to the wii u. the problem with the wii is that even thou it had the highest install base, a lot of thouse were as a secondary system to a ps360, so people would buy the hd version in their other system instead of the wii. that was mainly due to the low cost of the wii anyone could have one and still probably have a second console. now 2 things have change.
1) they are all hd consoles so the diference is very minimal and people would not know the diference.
2) they are more expensive and brand new, so very few have multyple systems so if a multy plat comes to wii u it will not be that bad as before.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Nope.

Well, the Wii U could possibly see more half-baked ports of select third party titles, like it's been getting until this point, but that's the best it can hope for.

Probably not.

Nintendo has already had a different vision and has targeted different demographics than the PSBox line of consoles. This direction is different than those pursued by major developers.

Basically, companies are trying to shove square pegs into Nintendo's round hole (sounded less weird in my head). When developers offer games that make sense for the Nintendo fanbase (Epic Mickey, Just Dance, Rayman Legends, Goldeneye) they've often done well. Otherwise, they'll fail.

It's too late. The Wii U won't see any significant 3rd party support for the rest of its lifetime.
