Sold their PC division and are spinning the Tv division off.

Hirai has got to deliver or he'll have to step down. Not much time left for excuses.

Every student in 22 jump street had a Vaio. Lol and the duo had Xperias. The amazing spider man was even worse (not saying worse as in bad). Even before the film started you saw SONY film productions or Columbia a SONY company. Both these movies have been box office successes.

While watching the world cup all I see in the background is Sony 4k tv.

It's hard to imagine with PS4 doing so well, Xperia breathing life into the phone division and box office successes this year that they will STILL lose money.

Yah I wonder why investors/analysts are not looking at 22 Jump Street instead of actual results/numbers!
Very compelling argument :)

Sony has been, and always will be an interesting Company for me! My parents, ever since I was a child always bought Sony products! For example, my first, second, third and current TVs are all from Sony. The VCR, DVD, Bluray players are all from Sony, heck even the car's deck is from Sony. I also choose a psp over an ipod/ds (although I did get them eventually) for the longest time and you get the idea.

But with that being said, Sony was expensive for what their products were worth imo. Like their PCs were known to be shit/value for decades if you knew how to buy a PC that is as well as their TVs. Their prices have gotten better over the years but we no longer buy Sony products at all. We mostly buy Samsung products instead, our next TV for 4k will be Samsung, without a doubt, all our phones are Samsung (although no one has an S5) and etc. And the way they handheld the vita also pisses me off and don't get me started about the ps3 launch.. I do hope that they will make another turn around and start making some actual money but they certainly needed a kick in a balls to put them in the right direction although maybe not this many kicks

PS: Before anyone says, My Vaio lasted me 8 years or whatever, its not about how long a laptop/desktop lasts you cause any PC will last you a long time if you know how to take care of it. Its about whats inside the PC and what they are charging you for it is what counts

Hirai looks a lot older in that photograph than I thought he was

I think Sony stands a chance at being able to bring themselves into profit again, but there are still more steps that need to be taken. I think they seem willing to make those changes though

He's 53 and I think he's aged a lot since he became President and Chief Executive Officer in 2012.

It must be a very stressful job.

So sad, lay off 20k employees is so stressfull.

What looks to be missing from this article, is that the shareholders did have a Vote and chose to Retain Kaz as CEO.

Would be interesting to see if Iwata would dare put his job up for a vote.

Every meeting his posiiton is put for voting

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/04/02/report-iwata-in-trouble-at-nintendo

"According to Nikkei (and translated by Siliconera), Iwata is coming upon a "June of trials," as the Nintendo president's approval rating has dropped for the past three years. Nintendo hosts a general shareholder meeting every June, in which the company's investors vote to approve Iwata back on the board of directors. The report states Iwata's approval rating was 92.9 percent in 2011, but that dipped to 77.3 percent last year."

I agree with you. I still prefer Sony products for quality, but companies like Apple and Samsung (as much as I tend to dislike them) have caught or even exceeded Sony in terms of smartphones, computers, multimedia (with the exception of gaming), etc. Sony has for too long tried to hold up a bussiness model like Apple (selling proprietary products for a very high markup), but without the consumer appeal that Apple has. They are slowly changing, but not fast enough. They took too long to get in the smartphone business with Android, and now they're showing that they abandon products if they start suffering, like the Vita or the Xperia line in the U.S. Most of the time I appreciate what Sony does, but sometimes they just piss me off.

They're still in the process of restructuring and Sony said that they won't be done until the end of their fiscal year. Their real test will be after they finish restructuring and shedding all the dead weight.
