Forums - Sales - WiiU and the "under 100k NPD curse"

Seriously?! I expected 100k+ safely last May NPD with Mario Kart doing so well, somehow it's only the 6th highest non holiday month for WiiU, and yet again hasn't been able to break that 100k barrier (91k in September 2013 with Zelda remake was closest) outside of Nov/Dec holiday season.

When do you think WiiU can achieve a 100k+ selling month in US?

Is June a possibility? I reckon it will do much better than this May but it's not a lock IMO. More weeks and longer MK availabilty goes in its favour.

Isn't it obvious?  The next time a bug game launches.

So Pokemon WiiU then?

Holiday boost usually barely starts in September if I recall correctly. I would say maybe then.

Reggie has been championing June as a real benchmark, so lets see. I think the first week in June will be good and the E3 announcements might carry it forward for a while.

There's actually a good chance that the stores just couldn't restock them like they could the PS4. Nintendo's sales haven't been that great so production has probably also been poor.

@ Eric - whilst MK is leggy the first 2 days are still highly indicative of demand, you can't write them off and make out the proceeding 35 days are going to be similar. WiiU got a boost (up YOY 100%?) so it DID get a boost.

fleischr, well how do you think that 60k was split throughout May?

It was out of stock in all major retailers, and Nintendo's stock of refurbs ran out. Hard to sell consoles that don't exist.

Bundles ran out, not the actual WiiU's. Any word on if Nintendo plan to create more?

Nintendo have a lot of surplus stock as admitted in their financial statements last Q.

I suspect that the refurb stock is their surplus stock. They are likely burning out that stock, seeing how figures adjust after MK8 and E3, and will move from there.

Bundles themselves seem to be back in stock online, though the stores around my area of Chicagoland are still unable to keep them stocked physically, I don't know if this is a lack of supply or a high demand.

I expect the console to get a slight raise in its normal sales (So it should level off around 40-50000).  Otherwise yeah I expect it to only break 100,000 when big games come out.

Prediction for console Lifetime sales:

Wii:100-120 million, PS3:80-110 million, 360:70-100 million

[Prediction Made 11/5/2009]

3DS: 65m, PSV: 22m, Wii U: 18-22m, PS4: 80-120m, X1: 35-55m

I gauruntee the PS5 comes out after only 5-6 years after the launch of the PS4.

[Prediction Made 6/18/2014]
