Capcom made most of the mobile Zelda games and Monster Hunter is vital to the handheld market. Nintendo should buy them, especially to get more exclusive games. Sega could also be interested as they recently bought Atlus.

Selling or loosing close contact to Rareware was the 2nd biggest mistake in Nintendo history, right after cheating Sony on the SNES CD Rom Drive.

As much as some people, and heck even Nintendo execs, would like Nintendo acquiring Capcom I doubt it would be financially feasible. Nintendo has just made a $150 million acquisition this year (on an unknown non-jp non-games company) and a $1.1 billion share buyback operation, so I doubt investors would be willing to authorize such a massing acquisition.

They'd need to pay at least $500 million to get 51% of Capcom's shares considering they're current market share of about $1 billion, and it might be a little to much for Nintendo at this point, considering their 3-year losses. Just a case of bad timing I guess.

Imagine Nintendo buys Capcom, keeps the name, then releases Resident Evil(very first one) HD

If you're talking about the Remake, yes =T

This is an awesome opportunity for Nintendo to purchase great IP's and to secure exclusive beloved games for current and future Nintendo Systems!!!

Hard to say. Street Fighter isn't what it was, RE isn't what it was, Megaman is AWOL, DMC isn't what it was. Monster Hunter really seems to be the only hot IP right now. Is that enough to justify buying the whole shebang? I don't know if the cost/benefit stacks up.

The romantics would like to see it no doubt. But if Ninty does its due diligence they might find the worth isn't there.

For me I think Ninty needs to work on some new IP all their own to excite people about something new and wonderful. I don't think their future lies in recycling Capcom IP which is mostly past its prime aside from MH.

Those series may not sell as well as they once did but Street Fighter & Resident Evil are still multimillion selling franchises and the latest DMC sold over a million, Megaman is AWOL but hes a nice fit on Nintendo platforms and could very well make a return.

A new IP in what genre? It's not that smart to create new IPs just for the sake of creating new IPs and then have them compete with your current one. The only logical choice I could see here is a shooter (which has been Nintendo's biggest genre hole in the past generations), and we're already getting that with Splatoon.

What they need to do now is maintain their IPs with fresh new gameplay mechanics and presentations. No use in making a Mario clone with a different face and name.

I hope so, and they should. Also, it's possible since Nintendo wants to buy and Capcom wants to sell. I wouldn't doubt this has been in the works for some time, since Nintendo announced that buy-back some time ago. Nintendo needs Monster Hunter on its handhelds, and they need more content - especially mature content - on its home consoles. Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Dead Rising, Lost Planet, etc, would compliment Nintendo's current lineup and bring with it dedicated fans to expand the Wii U (and beyond) user base. Classic titles like Mega Man, etc could also be milked by nostalgia-savy Nintendo. It would be a great fit.

Nintendo wants to buy Capcom-  have they stated that in the past or is there reasonably reliable information to that effect out there in the news somewhere?

Nintendo wants to buy something, I didn't say Capcom. Nintendo did a share buy back in preparation for a merger or acquisition. Capcom is now open to a takeover. Capcom is worth about 1.5 billion dollars US, Nintendo has about 8 billion in cash and available assets. Nintendo needs more capacity and some titles to draw in mature fans; and they also can't afford to lose Monster Hunter. It's a great fit. But no, Nintendo didn't say they wanted to buy Capcom specifically.

I misread the sentence - sorry about that -   I do remember Iwata saying they are looking for acquisitions

i wonder how much of thier value is IP v there dev studios and similar type assets - could Nintendo absorb thier dev assets and make them work?

No worries, my grammar wasn't great there.  I think Capcom is a unique potential acquisition becuase it does have some valuable name brands and also significant production capacity, while being relatively affordable at 1.5B$ or so.  RE exclusivity would move a few million extra Wii U's just like MH helped 3DS stay relevant despite the shrinking handheld market.  If Dead Rising 3 and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisin had been released for Wii U during the past year at intervals between Nintendo's releases, no one would be complaining about software droughts.

Should Nintendo buy Capcom? As many have heard, Capcom is now open to buy. If Nintendo jumped on this deal, not only would they get help making some first party games but some other huge game series would become exclusives like Monster Hunter, Street Fighter, Resident Evil, Megaman, and Devil May Cry. I think Nintendo should take this offer before it passes.

Honestly Nintendo desperately needs more first party studios.  Buying Capcom would get them almost everything they need.  Imagine if Ninendo launched a proper hardcore console in 2017 that had Resident Evil, Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and a megaman reboot as exclusives...

Nice idea, but here is a MUCH better one. Launch in 2020 after the Wii-U has gotten high-end installments of every major Nintendo IP, a few more new ones like Splatoon, and almost every single Capcom IP. Replacing the Wii-U too soon would hurt the brand image, turning it around into the house of many future classices and then releasing the Nintendo Fusion Platform (handheld - home-console hybrid) with full backwards compatibility at the same time as the PS5 and Xbox Circles would be much better. Those who didn't cave to the Wii-U during its life-time could be brought in by that, I'm sure.

If they wait till 2020 Nintendo will be irrelevant in the gaming world, and they will have lost more investors than you can count!

Wow, you missed alot this past month if you still think the Wii-U is 'doomed'. E3 has shown how the Wii U will be profitable by the end of its life even if it merely has 45 million consumers like the Xbox One (kinda want one of those myself too). Its called Amiibo, and it allows players to create camoes and such of their favourite characters in other games. And as if that weren't enough to keep them safe while they rebuild their name by flooding their, presumably underpreforming console with as many hits as one company could fathom doing single handed, Nintendo basically bought itself back from its investors to prevent anyone trying to push for a new console too soon. Thankfully they know their ludology timeline - SEGA died from rushing new consoles. Remember they're planning a fusion console by all accounts, so they need to thoroughly vindicate Wii-U and 3DS purchases. No better way to do that than by flooding them with hits that people will berate themselves from missing.

Your delusional if you think the E3 announcements will make a big difference.  MK8 is the Wii U's biggest release of this generation and it couldn't even beat Watchdogs on the PS4.

My point is the Wii U doesn't have to sell as much as the PS4 to make a significant profit because of how Nintendo's upcoming Amiibo will work. - Also the Wii-U will most likely outsell the Xbox one, it is by far the most natural secondary console for PC and PS4 owners, despite the passionate prophets of doom. - Although I admit my knowledge of sales only go as far as VGCharts front page which was based on MK8 (a largely 'long acting' system seller) having less time than W_D on sale; I would LOVE an update. Also Watch_Dog's was hyped to hell and ended up hurting the 'next gen' image, just in time for Nintendo to show off at E3. Not saying it'll outsell the PS4, merely that with Nintendo's approach they could make a damn fine profit.

Street Fighter vs Super Smash Bros. Make it happen Captendo!

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
