Forums - Nintendo - There's serious problems with Mario Kart 8

People seem to have forgotten that Fake Item Boxes didn't stop shells in MK Wii, and you could get those in first position. However, I'm not a fan of the coin mechanic too.

Also I find funny how people went from whining about the Blue Shell, the most OP item overall, to the Coin, the weakest item ever! xD

I love the coin item because it reduces the clutter on the tracks. Now people don't spam banana peels and green shells like maniacs. I understand complaints about getting the coin item three times in a row and being without defense for a lap or more, but that rarely happens. Mario Kart Wii had the fake item box which is worse than the coin; both items make you defenseless, but the coin at least increases your top speed (unless you already have ten). The coin really isn't bad, because second and third place don't get many red shells.

The three star ranking only meant something in Super Circuit and Mario Kart Wii, because in Double Dash!!, DS and 7 it wasn't much of a challenge.

The VR scores don't bother me. The score never said anything about how you earned it. I've come across plenty of people with high scores who would get out of my group after two or three races, because they couldn't increase their score.

As much as I respect you opinion on the Mario Kart series I am going to have to disagree with you.  I seem to constantly get the coin when I'm in first.  Yesterday I had a race where I got off to a huge lead early.  I kept getting the coin and was hit by a red shell.  This narrowed the gap.  The second lap I had the good fortune of getting a banana peel and widened my lead again until somebody spamed three red shells at me.  No biggie.  I'm used to that stuff.  The third lap I once again get only coins and build my lead back up until about a quarter of the track is left.  Then I get nailed by a blue shell, then two red shells, and then a green shell.  6th place.  What's cool about that?  Also, those in second and third seem to get red and green shells often.  At least agianst me it seems.

I'm not as good at this game as I was at Mario Kart Wii - This is the biggest flaw of the game.  It shares many similarities with Mario Kart 7.  The biggest, being that it isn't Mario Kart Wii.  It reminds me of when I was a young Doctor Who fan and Peter Davison refused to be Tom Baker.  I couldn't stand him for it.  I know many of you love MK:DD and some of you sickos think DK 64 is the best, but you you are wrong.  Why?  It is my opinion and my opinion is always right (to me).

So there you have it.  Mario Kart 8 is probably my favorite game this generation thus far, but it has it's share of problems.  Have you found any others or do you find it to be perfect?

If this is really whay you believe then i might have to get this game sooner rather than later. Especially if it shares similarities to MK7. MKWii IMHO was the weakest game in the series, besides maybe the GBA one. You didnt give any reasons why this is an issue but ill take a stab in the dark. YOu say you're not as good in it as you were with the WIi version. Well that makes perfect sense, since MKWIi felt more like a party game than an actual Kart racer. It felt like Ninty dumb down the difficulty so they could cater to the broadest amount of people as possible and it worked. Maybe you were never that good and MKWii gave you a false sense of skill.

Maybe.  Maybe me getting a 9999 VR on four seperate files and the second best trials overall on this site (you can look them up) was all luck.  Either that or I'm really good at party games.

as it has been said before that doesnt mean anything. Cause those numbers dont really indicate how you got them. Hell that could just mean you played the game alot. And IMO it doesnt change what i initially said as i believe the Wii one wasnt that much of a challenge and geared more toward new comers, casual players and people who just arent that great. Which would explain your high score. (no offense)

You know what?  I originally was going to ignore your original comment because I new that you were trying to get under my skin.  But I figured that I would list certain accomplishments that would prove to you that I was good at the game.  Then you disagreed just to disagree and said that it all meant nothing (no offense).  Let me tell you something.  Having the second best all around time trials on the site which you can look up does mean something if there was a large group of people putting up times (which there was).  I don't care what the racing game is.  I don't care if it's Hello Kitty Kruisers.  What it means is that you have completely mastered the tracks.

Now you can disagree just to disagree again if you get off on that sort of thing, but I won't be answering you.  Have a good day, sir.

Has to be bad luck or exaggeration on your part. Your story here pretty much amounts to "got one banana peel while I got the coin seven times or more", that is far from a regular occurence and nothing that has ever happened to me.

It must be bad luck then.  I'll keep playing and try to get better.  That's all that I can do.

Nope, you're cleary just not skilled enough to get an item other than the coin more often than not, nor are you skilled enough to keep the peoples behind you from getting Red Shell after Red Shell or Triple Red Shell. Don't worry though, I suffer from the same lack of skill from time to time! xD

Anybody notice Mario Kart 8's sales plummet after just one week. So much for hopers and dreamers.

2nd week sales, pretty much expected of any game.
