Forums - Nintendo - Should Yoshi's Whooly world be a 3D game? 3D is dead on Nintendo consoles? Game looks amazing though.....

I take it, 3D refers to games where you wander around and don't confront death very often.

Zelda, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Captain Toad Treasure Tracker and Xenoblade Chronicles X are clearly 3D games, are they not? Don't freak out over Nintendo making a few 2D games.

And no, 2D games such as this aren't cheap and easy to make. If they were, then third parties would rush to make those games.

No they wouldn't, because no one would buy them, as exemplified by every 2D game on the market that isn't called Mario or Donkey Kong.

Kirby's epic yarn sold 2M.

The Wii had a 100m installed base. That's like saying COD Wii games sold well.

It doesn't "consistantly outsell 3D Mario." One NSMB outsold the Galaxy games. That's it. SM3DW isn't a true 3D Marios and even so, it's only been out for a few months. SM3DL outsold NSMB2. 2D Mario would never have sold as much if it wasn't for the Wii casuals who already had a Wii. 2D Mario would never have sold as much as Mario 64 or Sunshine on their respective platforms.

NSMB2 released after SM3DL. And one NSMB? Did you do your research? NSMB and NSMBWii outsold Galaxy. Just because you don't think SM3DW is a "true" 3D Mario (that's ridiculous) doesn't mean it isn't, it also still means that NSMBU outsold it.

It would outsell 3D games like Metroid, Star Fox, F-Zero, etc ;)

It is always a problem to design puzzles in 3D as you are able to walk around obstacles!

2D games have their place in gaming and I'm glad Nintendo hasn't cast 2D aside like many others.

3D games are more expensive and take longer- The Wii u isn t selling so they have opted for 2 d games over 3 d games when they can - I am sure a 3 d Metroid would gave sold better and sold more Consoles than DKTF ,but developing another high quality 2 d platformer is less investment than a high quality 3 d Metroid shooter/ exploration type game

Poor excuse, Zelda and Metroid are basically puzzle games with exploration and combat.
