| fighter said: Those MMOs are actually much closer to Destiny than any of the examples you gave. Would you prefer me to cite MAG ? Mmmh ? So coming back to my point, a LOT of MMOs fail. And none of the games you cited are MMOs. And you really seem comfortable with your belief that Destiny is already free to play ? LOL |
And you ask me why I have a problem?
You completely deny reality and just create your own. Those MMOs are nothing like Destiny at all! Those are MMORPGS! They are a completely different GENRE of game! You may as well compare sports games to MMOs! You're taking one aspect and saying, "hey that's an mmo-esque thing" and then calling the game an mmo.
Honestly, the closest game you could say is an MMORPG is EVE Online. It's literally the closest thing to an mmo, yet is still vastly different from destiny and mmos in general. The MMORPGs you listed all have these things in common:
Crafting, resource gathering, different quest lines from different areas on a world map, travel, instanced dungeons, single server with thousands of players, racial differences...
Destiny has none of these things. This from the wiki:
The game's style has been described as a first-person shooter that will incorporate massively multiplayer online game (MMO) elements, but Bungie has avoided defining Destiny as a traditional MMO game.[10] Instead, the game has been referred to as a "shared-world shooter,"[11] as it lacks many of the characteristics of a traditional MMO game. For instance, rather than players being able to see and interact with all other players in the game or on a particular server—as is the case in many conventional MMO games—Destiny will include on-the-fly matchmaking that will allow players to see and interact only with other players with whom they are "matched" by the game.[10]
MMORPGs are thought of as a real life simulator. You are taking the character to as much realism as possible. Eating, Sleeping, Questing, meeting people, having a job....even running errands. Destiny is so far from that. It's just a huge world with a lot of people playing and casually introduced into your game.
It's actually more like Journey than anything else. In journey, you never know who the player who just joined you is. They just join. Sometimes they might get too far ahead and the game breaks off the connection and connects someone else to you. All the while, you have no idea that connections are happening. Whenever I've had someone play the game for the first time, they've never realized that they were playing with almost a dozen different online players. They always thought it was the same person the whole game.
