Forums - Gaming - Are PlayStation multiplats being gimped for Xbone's sake?

Exclusives on both consoles will always push the boundaries farther than anything 3rd party developer ever could because of the hand and hand work they will do with Sony and Microsoft. In 2 years we will look back at that uncharted reveal and those graphics will be the norm.

Both consoles are fairly easy to work with. There's no secret sauce nonsense.

What you see is what you'll get 6 years down the line.

That is compensated by the manhours spent coding for the Xbone compared to the PS4 version.

That is why Xbone owners shouldn't expect to see any graphics jump. A decrease in working hours spent on coding for Xbone will only lead to programmers being fired.

No, it isn't that simple. Some problems like the tiling issues were actually too hard to overcome and MS had to fix in the SDK.

What you see now are PC ports and games develope to early dev kits that weren't that close to the final hardware. As any other console before, devs will learn to work with them and SDKs will become better. Consoles that were easy to work before (GameCube and Xbox are two of them) saw the same increase with time.

As a good example, both consoles are capable of advanced physics using the GPUs (PS4 GPU as an example has several times more computing units than the regular Radeon had) and we don't have games using that yet (Deep Down will be one of the first for its volumetric fire).

Wasn't that the case with Final Fantasy XIII when it first came out for PS3/360?

But every devs are different so you can't expect everything to be flawless across the board.

Wasn't there some sort of agreement from both Sony & MS that multiplat games can't look significantly better than the other?

At the OP: No, not at all and your conspiracy theories are just hilarious :). Developers differ in competence and Naughty Dog are among the best when it comes to getting the most out of hardware. That said, I wasn't that impressed by what was shown since there wasn't any real game play. The game will look gorgeous, but prerendering with in game graphics than actually having that level of graphics when playing.

Overall, I suspect almost all games will be comparable between the machines graphically, and isn't that great for gamers? :)

when you have games like Forza and Halo on XB1 targetting 60fps/1080, and games like Driveclub on PS4 targetting 30fps, you'll realise not all games, not all devs ect are the same.

Using Naughty Dog (who are incredibly talented) as a bench mark for everyone else is silly.

Not only that but it's completely unproven anyway.

They cut out things like some lighting effects and pre rendered backrounds to achieve 1080p and 60fps... in other words they cut corners to achieve some specs... They are not doing that with Drive Club.

How do you know that?

wasnt the uncharted trailer CG ? do you think the gameplay will be like thatXD

It wasn't CG. Don't worry, that reaction is common to ND stuff.

I believe PS4 can produce those graphics, but are those the same graphics used in actual gameplay?

Cutscenes are kinda like tech demos, they generally look better than gameplay graphics.

If its true that they are being gimped, its their own loss because they wont compete (graphically) with other PS4 games which do not get gimped.

It is widley known that the Forza does not have Dynamic lighting or weather... the lighting is prebaked and the backrounds pre-rendered.

Forza Horizon 2 however should have full dynamic lighting as it will take adcantage of the new SDK.

What I find funny is that all the software improvements CANNOT make up for the physical hardware difference, and not only that Sony will also be making improvements to  thier SDK.  This gen will always have a hardware gap.. that will NOT change.
