...because there are billions of people on the planet.  Consoles aren't 'losing' ground to smartphone games.  A Shitload of people just have smartphones, and are getting into games (or are already gamer's and are now able to game on their phones in addition to whatever consoles they buy).

Considering the decline in handheld sales (PSP vs Vita) the PS home consoles are doing great though.

Because both x1 and wii u is underperforming.  Im pretty sure that the ps4 sales dont make up for the decreased sales of xbox and nintendo products..  In terms of total sales it does seem like we are seeing a small shrink compared to last gen.  No evidence to back this up but them again i havent heard anyone analyzing the overall sales of current vs last gen
