I think a five year life cycle, especially now days, has a huge potential of being much worse for the gamer. Look at how long it's taking us to get some decent games on the PS4 and Xbox One. It'll be around two years before we start getting decent support for the consoles and only three good years before the next set of console releases. I think six years should be the new minimum life span of a console.

The Playstation lived five years, and it was an amazing console, but the first two years were rather slow compared to its remaining years.  It slowed back down after the PS2's release, but we still gotquality releases. 

No way will PS5/XB4 use AMD CPU cores. So I don't think he would know.

I would bet on 100% Intel CPU+graphics.

Not gonna happen. Higher development costs require longer periods of development and console life cycles. The next generation will probably be x86 based as well, hopefully with backward compatibility, gradual changes, and will come in 6-8 years (no sooner than 2020). There isn't just fast enough development to justify a faster life cycle.

1080p/60FPS? Yeah..

We hear this at the beginning of every gen just a few months after the consoles are all out. The big 3 are of course already in talks with companies like AMD about the future and those companies takes this as "Oh, they're getting their new systems out really soon", which then leads to this threads.

They're definitely not launching earlier than I think.

My sentiments exactly.

The days of experimental CPU's and GPU's are over. From here on out consoles have to use a familiar tech that can run the previous games, and build off the existing OS. With the emergence of android set top boxes, Sony and MS can not afford to have consoles with zero library, and a gutted OS day one.

I think the most imporatant things the new consoles need is 4K on every title. Give me that and I am all over it, anything less and I dont see the point.

How about we get 1080p first? ;) Though in 2020 there may be a chance for 4k, depends how well the market adopts 4k TVs.

As long as they mean after 5 years then yea! Everything is good but if its under 5 years, how much under would be my question

i'm hopeinf the next gen is more backwards/forwards compatible. i would be fine with a new gen every 4 years with more overlap.
