I agree, I was looking for a possible alternative explanation, and not trying to justify IGN, but suggesting that somebody could have exploited IGN questionable journalism (*cough*) ethics, reasonably sure that they'd have bloated a simple insider leak to official announcement status.
Because after this negativity debunked, the net effect will be positive (and FREE) marketing even if they end up delaying the game.

Japan Studio as a whole have made tonnes of games in the last 9 years, yeah.  But he's talking about Team Ico (a studio within Japan Studio) whose last game was Shadow of the Collossus and haven't actually put out any new games since.
