On top the battle system was atrocious. It used the traditional MMO type fighting system ,, which can be seen in FFXI where you press a command and you wait. No way to dodge, or even to run and no matter wher you stand in teh battle field, the enemy will also hit you which was ridiculous . The only good thing about FFXII was the graphics. For a ps2 at that time, it was really awesome. |
I like that you actually mention things about the gameplay you don't like. Can't see how it's better than XIII though.
Soon I'll have my PCSX2 up and running and I'll check it out in 1080P60 and see for myself :)

But, over the last 9 years, instead of making the one game that everyone constantly begs for, funnels rumors for, etc. they make a bunch of games we don't want. Nobody asked for a FFX remaster. Nobody asked for a FFXII remaster. After the debacle of FFXIII, nobody asked for XIII-2 or Lightning Returns. How hard would it really be to redo VII? The story is already in place, the battle system is in place, etc. They'd just have to build the character models and environments. Is that really that hard? Harder than making a new freakin game engine for a game that's 8 years into development hell (Final Fantasy Versu....I mean Final Fantasy XV)? |
I'm gonna guess really hard. Not for technical issues mind you, but because some parts of the game would not translate well to a FFXIII-like visual. At all. Case in point: cross-dressing Cloud.
It's a lose-lose situation at this point. If they do it, they'll have to change it, causing a riot on the, frankly, rather sensitive/annoying/fractured FF fanbase. If they keep it untouched, some parts will just make me cringe to death.

Well... that's just how it works with this series really. You love, say, FFXII - the next person hates it for the very same reason you love it. Like I said, it's extremely fractured.
Also: I strongly disagree with these claims that FFXII's battle system is drastically different than the rest of the series. You attack, you wait for the ATB bar to fill up again, you attack again. What's the difference really? FFX is far more different really.

@Richard feynman--- I actually prefer XIII over XII . For me XIII may not be the best in teh series ,, but its definetly not the worst. XIII for me had a better story and love the combat system and how that gradually got better with each sequel. Even the characters in XIII for m e,, were far more enjoyable then those present in XII. The ps2 version of XII had two options for graphics. You either had the high res face throughout the game but with no AA or you don't have the high res but you have AA so you don't see much jaggies on the characters . If a remake was to be done ,, i hope they change the battle system and make it more like FFXIV ARR as you options to dodge and counter, making it rely purely on skill rather then luck. Have fun!. It should glorious with those resoultion and frames :).

I say, let you cringe, then. I read somewhere, recently, that when Nintendo remade Ocarina of Time (I think it was that one) for the 3DS (maybe it was some completely different game, don't remember, but that's irrelevant to the point I'm about to make), they left in all the glitches, mistakes, dialogue etc. from the original to make sure not to "take away from the original experience" or something of that nature, and then the game turned out to be a critical and commercial success.

I think this will happen. SE had a poll about this on their official website and I think the votes were overwhelmingly on the "Yes" side.
Not only that this is easy money for them, I mean look at what FFX HD did.

If they add some story content and let you use all the gambits from the start I would love trekking through Ivalice again. I wish Vagrant Story was a PS2 game. They could remaster and bundle it with FFXII the Ivalice HD collection.

How? It was basically exactly like the normal system but they moved around more...am I missing something? The difference was merely cosmetic
