Forums - Gaming - Why didn't you buy a Gamecube for $199, $149, $99?

My family bought one at launch, and I bought one for myself once the price dropped to $99.

Because I wanted a dvd player.

"Why isn't samus in a mario kart game?"

WOW! I JUST GOT A EMAIL FROM JACK THOMPSON! HERE'S WHAT IT SAID:

Great thread! This is very opening.

Now I understand the thread that made about the PS3.

Please keep up the good work .

Yours truly,

PS: I blame

1. Design, Design, Design. GC doesn't look very classy and people don't feel like to put it in the living room. The design of the GC controller is too toy-like (colorful).
2. Doesn't play DVD.
3. Limited 3rd party game library.
4. Nintendo games on N64 were too good. The new games on GC were too similar.

Honestly, the success of Wii is partially built upon the failure of GC. People are so overdue to upgrade their Nintendo console.

If you try to conclude PS3 will face the same destiny like GC, I think you are seriously underestimating Sony and Ken Kutaragi.

It (PS3's market share) might hit 30%, but definently not more. ~ Neo

I'll answer #2. I didn't buy mine for $99 because I had already bought it for $199.

 1. I don't see how the console looks as any reason to not purchase it. The original Xbox looked terrible and still sold.

2. It's a gaming console. I'd buy a DVD player to watch dvds.

3. How exactly was it limited? The PS2s library was terrible.

4. I don't see how Windwaker was similiar to Majoras Mask or Ocarina of Time. Pikmin I&II were completely original, Tales of Symphonia wasn't coppied from anything...and even if some were similiar, so what?

The success of the Wii is because it's a good console with an excellent choice in games, not because the GameCube failed, even though I loved my GameCube.

didnt like controller and hated the design

What I meant is
A lot of people don't feel the need to upgrade from N64 to GC. And people feel it's time to get another Nintendo console (i.e. Wii) now.

That's the problem if the video game company releases new console too frequently.

That's the rationale behind Sony's 10-year life cycle strategy for video game console.

You are a crazy Mother¨**** if you ask me =p

Ps2 library terrible WTH =/.

@tehsage

I thought this thread is created to ask people why they didn't buy GC.

I didn't mean to argue with the GC owners. Those are just my thoughts and maybe a lot of gamers think that way too.

Let's face it, the weak 3rd party library has been troubling Nintendo since PS1 became a hit and Nintendo is doing it best to solve this problem.
