Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Forza Horizon 2 Announced - Cross-gen coming this fall

For me, it is for two reasons: The XB1 version is going to be held back by the 360 version and it won't look as good as it could, and this game could have sold a few XB1s but with it being cross platform, the number of XB1s it could have shifted will be reduced.

I think this was a 360 title that got delayed so they could also bring it to the XB1.

So, you think Forza Horizon would be a yearly game? That's not much tie for a dev lol

Looks at my comment ... looks at your reply ... scratches head.

Well if they didn't have Forza on such a tight schedule they could probably delay this game another year and make it a fullblown next gen exclusive, but I guess they already have Forza 6 for next year and they don't want both in one year. That and, no matter what some people might suggest, the X1s holiday lineup isn't exactly bursting with exclusives either, so they'll happily take this even if it's cross gen.

it's only "bursting" relative to ps4.  sony had damn well better announce something...

Well, Sony are going to survive this year even if they don't announce something else for the holidays (or if they only announce something like GOW:A RE), it's the Forums that might become a little obnoxious if they don't.

Cross gen isn't so bad. I've not seen any other manufacturer support their console this long.

Me either. 360 in its 10th year and still getting great support. Usually at the most, the "support" at this stage is outsourcing shit versions of yearly sports titles. But MS has stepped up with some great support. Even games they didn't develop themselves, support to incredible games like Titanfall and Super TIME Force was just awesome to see.

As for Horizon 2, can't wait. NFS was disappointing as shit imho. I hope they don't fuck this up with microtransaction and DLC shenanigans or I'll just avoid it altogether like Forza 5.

Pretty much what I do right now. Not sure where your problem is?

You meant that "I think this was a 360 title that got delayed so they could also bring it to the XB1."

And I meant that this would probably mean that Horizon would be a yearly game without the Xbox One version since Horizon 1 released October 2012 and in your opinion, Horizon 2 got delayed to Fall 2014. When exactly would have been the normal release of Horizon 2 without a delay? Right now it will release two years after the first one and you think it got delayed.

no need to worry the game is being made at two diff devs playground is making the x1 version and someone else is make the 360 version so it is a next gen froza horizon game

Ah, Ok, fair enough, I stand corrected. I see what you mean now.

I am also here to make a cross-gen comment!

I find that incredibly surprising. I don't think a racing game would sell legions of XB1 consoles, but it'd certainly move some.

This whole generation switch has been weird. Sony going balls-to-the-wall with PS3 games in the year PS4 released; and now MS keeping cross-gen going. They're not bad things, just surprising. Not what I'd expect.

The first Forza Horizon looked ace, so I'd imagine this will turn out great too. I'll keep a close eye on it. I'm planning on getting a 360 one day so I can play Tales of Vesperia, so I'd probably give one of these a try too.

Wonder what FPS they'll be targeting though. Maybe 30 on 360 / 60 on XB1?

That's a really interesting question. Were it purely an X1 game then i imagine 30fps would be the target due to it being an arcade racer rather than a sim (as was the case on the 360, 30fps for FH and 60fps for F4) but with a 360 version, aiming for 60fps on the X1 would make scaling the game down to the 360 a lot simpler.

  1. We were only shown FH2 on XB1. Didn't see single 360 devkit at Playground. It's plenty "next-gen," I assure you. More in tmw's big preview!

    1. I've woken up to worries over Forza Horizon 2 also being on 360. FWIW another studio is doing 360; Playground is bldg XB1 ver off FM5 engine
