I agree. I think its stupid to say story is number 1. I am surprised more here are saying story over graphics actually. We play games for gameplay. I watch movies for stories but I do love and enjoy a good game that has a story that immerses me but I hardly call it the most important factor. Anyway, as you was saying, Hotline Miami is an incredible game. Its not big on graphics. As for everyone saying story, most Nintendo games have mediocre stories yet the games are great.

I think gameplay shouldn't even be mentioned here, because it's obviously what comes first for everybody.

So that said, I can't decide between atmosphere and amount of content.

You do have a pretty valid point there. Gameplay is pretty key to the overall gaming experience. Didn't really think about the various platformers and such that are out that I enjoy playing when I mentioned that story is supreme lol

It just needs to be fun/enjoyable.

Gameplay > Audio/Visuals > Story.

I cant favour anything in general. It all depends on the game.. In journey it was the art style and music that made up the game while story and gameplay took a back seat.. Still one of the best titles in recent memory. On the contrary there are mario titles with gameplay first and no story. Then there is uncharted and the last of us where story is the driving factor. These are all great games for different reasons. It is all about compensating weak points with great aspects that fit together to create the best product as a whole.

I only care about gameplay. Story and graphics are not important at all to me

I like to feel that what I'm doing on the controller is reflected accurately on the screen. That means a number of things I guess. Low latency, smooth framerate, accurate controls that make sense etc.

Fun factor, replayability, story and visuals.

While I do like story, I've played games with mediocre story lines and great gameplay over a multitude of times. Take GOW: Ascension. The story was meh, but man did I love the gameplay. I beat it over 10 times in the first 2 weeks. Likewise, I LOVED the Legacy of Kain series because the story is nothing short of amazing, but Blood Omen 2 had some of the worst gameplay in the series and it made it very hard for me to play the game over. Good thing Youtube had the cutscenes for viewing lol I watched them quite often.

I can agree with this. I beat MGS2 over 100 times when I was in high school, and of that figure I probably only watched the cinemas the first 5 times. The fun factor and replayability is what kept me playing it so often. I love story, but gameplay > story. But to each his own. Some games like story more. I guess that's okay too.
