Forums - Nintendo - The Pros and Cons of A Nintendo Hybrid Portable Console

I mean this is something that could be easily possible. Considering that....

Razer did a tablet with a Geforce GT 640M in it. I could run games like BO2 with no problems

Microsoft just did a slim tablet with a Core i7 in it.

MSI and "again" Razer both did a very slim laptop in a ultrabook form factor with a Geforce GTX 870M. A card that is more powerful than the one in the PS4.

While I know Nintendo wont make a powerful console, the device would benefit from heat and stuffs like that.

I welcome this idea at 80%. The other 20% is my concern about how Nintendo will design it. The bulky concept on the gamepad is horrible. I hate the analog stick from the 3DS. The only perfect controller it has is the WiiU Pro Controller. So I hope they go with that route.

the portable would hold all the power, and the console would just be the receiver for the tv so to speak. The console wont cost very much at all. so it can be bundled with it.

I honestly don't like the idea and don't think it would work.

For me, Nintendo Fusion is the next nintendo handheld, that can sync with Wii U ands its successor in the same way Vita does with PS4. That would also let them take the GamePad from the Sku, so they could sell Wii U way cheaper than the competition and create a stronger and third party-friendly successor.

we have to define the ideia of these consoles first.

the consoles can be sold separly?
if so, the home console works without the handheld?
the power will be the same? (same games, same power at least).
if so, it would be very bad to nintendo if the home console was weaker than PS4 in gen 9. So the handheld must also have more power than ps4. it is (will be) possible? if so, how much would it cost? would worth?
if they make home console more powerfull than handheld, the same games will in two modes? will it take total advantage of home console power? the developers will be allowed to make games only to handheld?(what is cheaper and can be finished faster...)
would it have rertocom[atibility with wii U?

is hard to see a scenario where it works, unless home console be only a dongle that put the handheld image to TV . Please nintendo, surprise me again.

This whole idea isn't even thought out very well. People think it sounds good at face-value but they don't realize that if it flops, it'll flop terribly. Worse than Wii U. The analogy that Leadified used for putting all their eggs in one basket is perfect, except in this instance the basket would be carried by a toddler that has yet to learn how to walk properly.

Sounds like the worst of both worlds. Both weak and expensive.

Which kind of reminds me of something, now that I think about it.

Well I guess a pro is it's a fairly innovative idea, it could catch on like the Wii but at the same time, putting all of their eggs into one basket might be a recipe for disaster.

Turbo Express Portable says hi.  Although the TG16 was even less popular  than Nintendo's least popular console, so for Nintendo it'd actually work.

Now that you mention it, I do think that this "Fusion" console as a whole sounds a lot like the Turbo Express and the Nomad, and realistically speaking what are the alternatives?

I think it'd do well.  Nintendo portables sell well and people always want a consolized version of them, so next gen what Nintendo should do is make a portable that's as powerful as the Wii U, maybe more powerful, then a year later, release the console version.  By releasing the console version at the same time, people would just compare it to the Sony and Microsoft consoles and would brush it off, but by releasing a console version that will play your portable games, people would see it as just that.  They wouldn't compare it to the major consoles on the market.

This way people who want the console can purchase the console, if they want the portable they can purchase the portable.  Devs will only have to develop for one but can sell to both, so Nintendo will get more third party support.  If they have both the console and the portable, since their purchases can play on both people are more likely to purchase more games for the system.

It is a VERY risky move if it turns out real. We're betting on TWO markets at once. It needs to be both powerful and cheap, good battery life, and it needs to be heavily marketed and games need to be flowing to this thing consistently. Right now I have my doubts in Nintendo pulling it off, but if anyone is crazy enough to try it, it's them.
It basically has to be perfect. However I would see Nintendo making it weak and expensive x.x

Soundwave and i and a few others have been brainstorming extensively about how to make this work, though there's disagreement on the finer points, i'll lay out a few points tomorrow (bed time, mostly just posting here to remind myself)

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
