Welcome to the 8th gen.
Pretty soon you're gonna need 2 PCs, enjoy!

Yes but the source code for it is open source so Nvidia could add it to their drivers if they wanted to. |
It's not that easy, otherwise AMD would have done it themselves to support their older cards.
Please excuse my bad English.
Former gaming PC: i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070
Current gaming PC: R5-7600, 32GB RAM 6000MT/s (CL30) and a RX 9060XT 16GB
Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.
Well, this is free market, if nvidia invested time on developing that tools, they don't should be obligate to share with all their competitors.
I understand the position of amd, but it has their good and bad thing attached to it too. Be open was what made amd hardware the parttern in the 8th gen hardware. Since nvidia don't allow custom hardware, everyone decided to go with amd to make their custom modifications.
Oh, well, i dont care much about this anyway, just happy that amd is more cheaper.
"Hardware design isn’t about making the most powerful thing you can.
Today most hardware design is left to other companies, but when you make hardware without taking into account the needs of the eventual software developers, you end up with bloated hardware full of pointless excess. From the outset one must consider design from both a hardware and software perspective."

Not surprised at all - nVidia is always trying to play dirty (just remember all the stuff about crippling CPU based PhysX).
Combine that with the usual tech sloppiness of Ubi, and we have a winner.

But i guess since it's also on ps3 it's not fully optimised for ps4/XOne. Still have high hopes for amd's pc APU's in 2-3 years though. Also i heard that the recommended pc specs mentioned a 8 core cpu? |
Gameworks is for PC, presumably Windows although I'm sure the optimizing code could be used for Linux or even Mac OSX.
The PS4 and the XB1 use their own operating systems and function as development walled gardens, meaning developers producing games for these platforms use the SDK software and hardware resources of those respective platforms for optimization. Nvidia doesn't even fall into that equation.
Besides, Nvidia's stance on consoles is that they don't matter anymore due in no small part to the fact that they have no contracts to supply any consoles with GPUs. Presumably AMD offered Nintendo, Microsoft and SCE better deals than Nvidia when it came to supplying GPUs for their current gen consoles.
On the PC gaming end of things, AMD must work directly with game developers and publishers if they don't want this potential/existing support discrepancy to continue. It won't matter if AMD offers better hardware performance for less money than Nvidia in tests if all key games favor Nvidia chipsets.
