With that kind of money you could get better players

Market is so crazy that while you can pay enormous sums of $$ and get someone like Suarez, Bale or Neymar, same happens with the likes of Andy Carroll

United has gotten major upgrades and they've spent a fraction of last window. Crazy to think they've gotten better, younger, and lower wages.

They also got non-english.. which is a bit worrying for the national side but the overpricing on english players has to stop, it isn't healthy..

 Rickie Lambert

Sir Rickie is never a waste, he cost like £4mil is there for mainly backup is he not? And it seems more of a good will thing, let the Liverpool fan play for his clubs before he retires. :)

Some good signings by Man U, Schneiderlin mainly. Can't go wrong with the best French player in Prem right now.

Hmm, pie.

Some of those were great purchases, the problem is, he is making a lot of purchases so som are bound to be. It's like what Nani used to do at United, he's shoot when he had the chance, the more shots he takes the more likelyhood he was to scoring.

Bit weirder when you are doing it with £15 mil a time and buying players though.

Hmm, pie.

Honestly, it isn't the duty of EPL to bolster the English national team. I understand the benefit with fans and marketing, but it's bad business to buy young English players right now.

United still has great youth development. The U-21s won the league last year and it's primarily English players. I think this is the best policy as a manager. Develop young English talent and purchase non-English talent.

But those young players have to be given a shot. If the ranks of your team are filled with  full 'old' international players only, those kids will never get a look in. I guess the League Cup, FA and less games in the prem are there for showing these talented youth player what they can do. Although I feel each club should develop and produce a player that can fill a role, not just buying that role. All of Man Us starting 11 are purchased.

I don't even like the fact that some of Saints youths aren't getting in the first team because we are building for european football. I'd prefer if we stayed 8th, developed great youth players while being consistant.

James WIlson got a good bit of playing time last year and will likely get several EPL starts this year unless United sign a big name striker (even then, Wilson got in over Falcao). Tyler Blackett started several games when the injuries were mounting, until he was injured himself.

I think you can criticize Van Gaal for a lot, but not playing his youth players isn't one of them.
