The Everton thing is odd, Koeman wasn't a problem, he wasn't the problem. The team took the money from Lukaku and didn't buy a replacement striker.

Saints don't have the same excuse, we just don't score goals.

Hmm, pie.

So many England players are 'injured' ahead of these friendlies... not suspicious at all.

These friendlies are just bullshit to be honest. Players wanna focus on their clubs, not some bullshit meaningless friendlies.

Good thing Altidore, Bradley and Howard will not be playing. I hope they get dropped permanently. Agghhh it's just so painful knowing I will have to wait at least 5 years to see the USA play in the World Cup again. I've gotten used to not seeing Canada play, but I was not expecting to see the USA miss out.

I don't think anybody was! :O

Hey, Iceland will be there though. Who expected to see them there? Maybe you should cheer for them?

My order of preference is

1.Canada/USA
2.AFC teams
3.The rest of the underdogs
4.Italy
5.The rest of the contenders

So I will be adopting the Asian teams next year (Iran, Japan, Korea and Australia if they make it).

So... the final matches in 2018 World Cup qualifying are taking place in the next few days. Who do y'all want to qualify? Who do you think will qualify?

From Europe I want Croatia (some top quality players and Greece are a stereotypically boring team), Switzerland (I'm fairly meh towards them, but they're better than fake Ireland), real Ireland (I like real Ireland) & Sweden (would just love how big a shock Italy missing out would be!).

Africa: DR Congo (I can name some DR Congo players, can't say the same for Tunisia), Morocco (they have the best national anthem ever, really want to hear that at the world cup!) & Senegal (they always seem to have some noteworthy players, so I'd like to see them get to the World Cup).

Other: Australia (gotta support former Brits even if they are all ex-cons ) & Peru (New Zealand have a guaranteed WC spot from 2026 onwards, they can afford to miss this one. Peru on the other hand don't often get the chance to appear at a WC so I'd like to see them!)

Who I want:

Greece (So I don't have to hear Pulisic should have picked Croatia anymore)
Northern Ireland (Don't want to see Switzerland)
Ireland (I'd love to see them return)
Italy (Out of the former champions, they are the only ones I don't mind seeing win the World Cup)
DR Congo (Very unlikely, but it would be cool), Morocco (Good defensive team)
Senegal (Said to be the best African team on paper)
Australia (Cuz AFC)
Peru (Been a long time since they last made it).

Anybody else get annoyed when people use numbers to refer to positions? Hate seeing "oh he's a natural #10" or "he's not a very good #9". What the actual fuck does that even mean? Shirt number has fuck all to do with the position and role players take on the pitch.

It's about how the traditional position is the number on the shirt.

It's like how most 11's are left wingers. (Martial, Neymar, Giggs)  Same as a 6 is a CDM (Veratti, Xavi, Pogba)

So Harry Kane would be ranked as one of the best No.9's in the league even though he has the no.10 shirt. It's just easier as the term 'forward' 'Striker' has kinda shifted meanings and responsibilities.

For example saying Juan mata should be playing a no. 10 role instead of saying that Juan Mata should be playing a creative position directly behind the striker whilst also making forward runs into the box..

no.2      no.4       no.5        no.3

                      no.6

          no.10            no.8

No.7                                 No.11

                    No.9

Especially since as far as I'm aware the #10 is usually associated with a teams top goalscorer (eg. Kane, Aguero etc).

Number 10 has been associated with attacking midfielders of second strikers like Pelé, Maradona, Zico, Platiní, Rivaldo, Ronaldinho or Zidane for ages.

Using archaic and outdated terms is easier than using more descriptive terms that people actually understand?

I just hope it's mostly old people that use those terms then and that they'll be phased out as they move on. For your Mata example I think saying he should be playing an attacking midfield or second striker role makes much more sense and is easier to understand that saying a #10 role. Especially since as far as I'm aware the #10 is usually associated with a teams top goalscorer (eg. Kane, Aguero etc).

The thing is it's difficult to define positions when they're changing all the time. A full-back crossing into the box regularly would've been unheard of not that long ago.

The idea of these 'roles' in football being given numbers makes sense. Saying you're gonna moves a centre back into the 6 role is just easy.

And the Number 9 is still predominantly the main striker. Benzema, Lukaku, Cavani, Lewandowski, Aubameyang, Suarez, Falcao, Morata, Belotti etc etc.
