But if Uruguay, Chile and Argentina can be producing elite talent year after year, why not other countries with similar economies, size of population and interest in football? Like Colombia, Peru, Australia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Iran, Tunisia, Saudi-Arabia, Algeria, Marocco, Egypt, South Africa and Turkey. And if you consider how damn talented black players are genetically (in France, Belgium, England, Portugal and Holland the black population is only 1-2% but they make up 20-30% of all the professional football players) one would think that at least a couple of Nigeria, Ghana, Zambia, Senegal, Mali, Ivory Coast and Cameroon would take steps like Brazil and Mexico did as poor nations in the past and join the elite of world football. And moneywise, the national teams of countries like USA, Japan, Korea, India and China are performing much worse compared with how much money there are in their domestic leagues. But no, it's all about Europe. |
A few things
- As a chilean I can tell you that we can't produce much elite players. Our current team is a "golden generation" that is made mostly of U20 2005 and 2007 generation, same team that was youngest in southafrica 2010 and one of the oldest in Copa Centenario 2016. From those we have our true world class players that are Vidal and Sánchez and then come the likes of Bravo, Medel and Aránguiz. After that we haven't been able to produce much more.
- I think Colombia have a way bigger pool of talent than Chile actually. I think our first 11 is better but they have a better squad and more talented players overall.
- Argentina, Uruguay and Chile are not comparable IMO. Population wise, Argentina are 40 million, Chile 17 and Uruguay 3. Talent wise, what Argentina produces is massive, and Uruguay for it's size could be considered the very best. Economy wise Argentina is a mess, Chile and Uruguay are more centered.
- In terms of CONMEBOL, I think you can divide in the best that are still Argentina and Brazil, then come the good that are Chile, Uruguay and Colombia, the mid Ecuador and Paraguay and the lower Peru, Venezuela and Bolivia. Mexico and USA also have the problem that their competition sucks, Concacaf sucks and Copa Centenario showed it, they should do what Australia did and get out if they want to get better.

Bring it on! I know they were never in the euros but were they ever in a world cup?

Meh.. Only attacking wise we look grim.. There is no new Bergkamp, Kluivert, Van Nistelrooy striker and Robben, Overmars like winger.. we have de Vrij, Kongolo, Riedewald, Tete, Willems at the back for the future which should be fine cause we have played with the likes of Heitinga, Mathijssen, van der wiel, braafheid at the the back.. midfield with Strootman, Klaassen, Wijnaldum, Propper, van ginkel and wunderkid Bazoer should do fine.. Not worldclass we had with Sneijder, Van Bommel but adequate enough.. only our attack looks horrible with narsingh, luuk de jong, Memphis, berghuis, janssen, promes.. Only the last two I have some hope they'll improve to a next level.. And there aren't any attacking Dutch wunderkids coming from Ajax, PSV or Feyenoord.. |
I have a small bit of faith in Janssen, providing he doesn't make a wrong move this summer (he'll probably will tho). Also, technically he's from Feyenoord. It's also a shame Chong already moved to United, the kid is absolutely amazing.
I'm not a huge football fan, but I know enough to be surprised about a lot of things that have happened during the cup. Nothing's going as expected. What next, Germany not playing in the finals or something? Maybe Iceland and Wales should determine the champion between themselves?

Actually there is a 4% chance according to ESPN

Ok to be fair Croatia are good, but besides that all were relatively easy.

Typical football talk. They're not Messi or Ronaldo so they're shit and not world class.... Bla bla bla
They're all class hence why they are in the European championship knockout rounds.

Genetically talented? Dude you are something else. First you have to investigate why are there a surge of talents in said countries then draw a conclusion. Brazil and Mexico are not as poor as you think. They have a huge amount of people living in precarious condition but I guarantee you they're richer than most European countries. They invest a lot in soccer and African countries can't have the luxury of doing that because... 3rd world problems. Money in domestic league is not everything, ask England, where the most money flow in terms of soccer business. |
Yes, black people are genetically predisposed for traits that benefit talent in football such as faster speed, more muscular strength, faster reflexes and better ball handling compared with other races. That is fact and nothing you can doubt.
I didn't say Mexico and Brazil were poor now. But back when they entered the world stage of football, 50 to 70 years ago, the countries were poor. That's why I wonder why poor countries today never establish in the world elite (Africa).
But even more strange is that nations that do seem to have all the conditions such as national economy, size of population, interest in football, . Nations such as Colombia, Peru, Australia, USA, China, India, Japan, Korea, Iran, Tunisia, Saudi-Arabia, Algeria, Marocco, Egypt, South Africa and Turkey.
I've waited since 1990, when I watched my first World cup, for at least a few of these 16 nations to climb up and make the same remarkable journey from mediocrity to the top as did Portugal, Chile, Poland and Belgium, and that we would one day see Africa's Mexico and Brazil.
