I know everybody will say this is a no-brainer, but I'm not so sure.

The last Mario Kart I played intensively was SMK in the SNES. I played the N64 one a bit and Double Dash only a few times.

I didn't get it on the Wii.

I bought MK7, but sold it after a while, because I didn't feel the urge to play it.

Although I'd like to play more I'm not sure if I can find enough time to get my money's worth out of the title. My son might enjoy it, though (he's 6 now and he liked Double Dash).

So, what do my fellow Nintendo fans say?

Do you own a WiiU? Then the answer is yes. I'm not even a Nintendo fan and I'd recommend it.

Hell if I know. I didn't play it yet. I'm getting it, though! I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy it.

If you own a Wii U and aren't getting MK8, you're a criminal in my opinion.

I would say yes, as even if you return it after a little while, you'll also have had another game for free...

Oh, you're talking about that campaign... that's totally different in Japan.
I should have mentioned I'm in Japan.

Here we don't get a free game. The Japanese campaign is "choose 2 games out of 6 titles to play 1 month for free".
I mean, how lame is that?
If I could get a free game I'd probably be much more likely to jump onto the train...
