Not sure if already posted. Also, I don't see any similarities with the GC controller.

1. thread is up http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=183513&page=1

2. Thats a wii controller, easy mistake to make! The real one is not shown yet

Easy is an understatement. Every article Ive seen have posted this pic. Also its odd because technically this GCN styled controller is a Wii accessory as it works exactly like a Wii Classic Controller from what I understand, which means no SM3DW with it or any other games without Classic Controller support =(

Yeah, that looks more like some old Sega controller.

That looks more like a the Sega Genesis six button controller rather than the Gamecube controller.

A following is a link to the Wikipedia picture of the Sega Genesis six button

It looks like the arguments over whether the SNES or Genesis contoller was better to play Super Street Figher II will be revived.

Pic in OP needs to be removed, as it is confusing everyone.

That's not the controller this news is about. It's an older one the same company released for the original Wii.

I'll remove it.  If you go to the link and other links they all used the pic.  Not sure why they did that.  I should have known something was up with just the Wii logo and the controller looks like the Sega 6 button controller.

Yeah I know, it's not your fault, it's in all articles mentioning this. Quite confusing...

The Forbes author seems unaware of this, judging by how he's analyzing the one on the OP.

Like I said - it's confusing everyone. Seriously, someone put that pic up initially, and all other news sites just copied-pasted it seems. XD

Investigative journalism at its best.
