I haven't played most of them but I tried to make my choices as objectively as possible and I feel these games definited the generation pretty well. If I had to pick just three, I'd pick Call of Duty 4, Angry Birds, and Wii Sports. Call of Duty defined all gaming that's not for almost everyone, Angry Birds defined casual gaming towards the end of the gen, and Wii Sports defined casual gaming towards the beginning of the gen.

What about personal choices then? Well, here we go:
- Minecraft
- BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger
- Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
- Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch
- Assassin's Creed (the first game)

I don't think any other game left such an impression to me as those games did. Final Fantasy XIII comes close but ultimately, it was pretty forgettable.

For me on a consoles at least

Wii: Super Mario Galaxy series, LoZ Skyward Sword, Kirby's Epic Yarn

PS3: God of War 3, Guitar Hero Warriors of Rock, Rock Band 3, and Red Dead Redemption, and Walking Dead the Game (Telltale games).

360: Halo ODST, Fable 2.

Wii Sports of course, Super Mario Galaxy.

MGS4, Uncharted on PS3.

Gears of War and Halo on 360.

Multiplats: GTA and CoD.

That's what I take away from the previous gen right now.

For me, the Mass Effect trilogy most defined the last generation. Brand new series that roughly spanned the whole generation. The video game equivalent of the original Star Wars trilogy for me.

lol motion controls shaped last gen too. the 7th generation was characterized largely by motion controls and gh/rb. among other things.

God of War III, Gears of War, Uncharted 2, The Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, Bioshock, Skyrim, Mass Effect 2, CoD:MW, GTA V and LittleBigPlanet.

I think all of these either defined their genres and/or the industry as a whole.
