Huh, so the WiiU's GPU peak is half of what we used to think?

According to speculations and best guesses on where tech heads would place it based on if it were the worst possible parts.

But that usually translates into PS4 fan facts.

Just did some reading up, 0.176tflop/s is the lower end of guesses and 0.352tflop/s (the number in the OP) is pretty much the best case scenario for the WiiU. So the WiiU's GPU is somewhere between quite a lot weaker than its competition and an awful lot :p (in terms of peak performance anyway).

According to what you read, sure.

As fatslob said earlier in the thread, if the WiiU's GPU has the same watt to GFLOPs ratio the most efficient 40nm GPU AMD have ever produced (which is rather unlikely for a lower end GPU like Latte), then it would be peaking at about 0.362tflop/s. That's just basic math.

Well, there is certain individual around here who claimed that WiiU is in 600-700 GFLOPS range - (un)fortunately, he is banned, so he can't "contribute" to this thread. For everyone else that has at least basic knowledge of GPUs and some common sense your numbers are most reasonable.

Not that it really matters much in the end, most devs/publishers have already made up their minds - to be honest, at this point I have a hunch that a lot of them hate that they even have to bother with XOne, considering even PS4 is at the minimum of what they were expecting from this gen.

600 to 700 GFLOPs? So he believes the WiiU's GPU is almost twice as efficient as the most efficient 40nm GPU AMD have ever produced? :P Well ain't that a fun thought lol.

Really though, i don't understand why anyone would be disappointed by the PS4 or even X1's specs. Whoever was expecting high end PC gaming off of a $400 console was mad :p Not to mention the vast majority of gamers only play on consoles/handhelds, to them the likes of Killzone, Ryse or inFamous are massive steps up over even the most recent 7th gen games, let alone their original launch titles.

Word.

It's not unreasonable to assume 4 - 500 gflops as there is still an NDA on the Wii U specs. Regardless of all the breakdown videos no one except Nintendo and devs know the true specs of the Wii U. But capping it at 392 was it? For what the best guess at the true specs is laughable. Sony and MS laid it all out on the line, Nintendo doesnt

Except it is unreasonable. The thing is while we may not know the specifics, we do know the power consumption of the WiiU's various parts. As fatslob said earlier in the thread, if the WiIU's GPU has the same watt to GFLOPs ratio as the most efficient 40nm GPU AMD has ever produced, then it would peak at 0.362tflop/s. Of course, in reality the WiiU's Latte is a lower end GPU, meaning it having the same efficiency is rather unlikely.

The chances of it being higher than 0.362tflop/s at that wattage are incredibly small. It's certainly not impossible, but no reasonable person would expect it.

That sounds concrete, lol.

Look, I'm not denying it may be .362, but as you said it's not impossible to be higher. At the end of the day it'll still be lower than the other 2 consoles, but at the end of the day it will still be able to make some very impressive games visually and performance wise.

The numbers are nice to look at and speculate I guess, to take yet again with a grain of salt.

Unless someone can prove that AMD developed Nintendo the most efficient GPU on the planet and then proceed to never use or build upon that technology again, yes, it's very concrete.
