These companies, or patent trolls, should have to pay all court fees and lawyer fees for the company they sue if they lose the case. This seems seriously pathetic. Nintendo has won a lot of these stupid cases, and has spent millions defending themselves over the same shit time and again. The loser pays for everything.

Sometimes the court may order the losing side to pay for the winning sides attorney fees as well. In other countries like the UK, the losing side always has to pay for the winning sides fees. So in this case, if Philips has sued Nintendo in Europe, then they may have to pay Nitendo for the costs they incurred if they lose.

Quoting your OP directly to point out that Philips collaborated with them to create the Wii U Fit Meter. Nintendo might be using some of the wireless technology from the Fit Meter in their NFC figurines/QoL stuff.

That's good. I didn't know that. I am ignorant about anything lawsuit/court related. But, that seems to me to be more than fair. I like your mario kart avatar, I can't wait for that game!
It's all over the news here in Belgium, Holland as well i think (Philips is a dutch company). Looks like they have a strong case against Nintendo, but don't worry guys. They are not going to really ban the Wii, WiiU and the other products. They just want some hefty royalties, which they will get since they've had the patents in question since 1996.
Phillips is going to be like, "hey, we're just saying that about the sales ban, we just want some royalties," but Nintendo is going to be all like, "no way, you guys are in the right and we respect the law so we'll stop making the Wii U immediately. Gosh darn it!"
The Nintendo brain-trust is probably giving each other high-fives as we speak.
