First of all, "The research firm defined "core gamer" as anyone who plays five hours or more on Microsoft or Sony consoles, PC, or Mac, and plays in certain genres (action, adventure, fighting, flight, MMOs, racing, real-time strategy, RPGs, shooters, or sports games) on those platforms." Five hours or more... what? Five hours per day? Five hours per week? Five hours in their lifetime? This is a pretty big oversight...

Now that that's out of the way, I'm glad I now know that a 9-year-old who played Clash of Clans on his iPod for five hours is considered "hardcore" while that Japanese chick who played Monster Hunter Tri for 7,000 hours is a filthy casual. If only she had dumped just five of those hours into MH Portable Third for PSP or PS3 instead! Then she would have earn the coveted "hardcore" label!

(And this is why the use of such labels is 100% bullshit. They CANNOT be defined in any reasonable way. They are purely buzzwords.)

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

2D platforming fans are all hardcore in my book.

We all know of many 2D platformer games that will make any lesser gamer fold with frustration.

The numbers are the least significant part of this report. It wouldn't matter if they personally surveyed all 34 million, or if they surveyed two dozen.

If I said in a survey of 200 American men I determined that 50% of American men live by themselves and added that I define American men as "humans with hair on their chest who live in the continental US," who would give a rat's ass about my extrapolation?
