Forums - Nintendo - New Nintendo Platform Approx 2 Years Out; Game Development Starts Now?

Just because he says they'll "need at least two years", does not mean they WILL bring out a new system in two years.

Personally, having invested time and $$$$$ into Wii U, I want to see that fucker last as long as it can. IE well into/past 2016. I won't be bothered at all if we don't see their next system until 2017. I want to get as many great games on Wii U as I can first. I am NOT one of those that is eager (and apparently made of money) for another new system so soon.

If you get all the main Nintendo IP that you're supposed to get and then some (X, Bayonetta 2, Fatal Frame, Pokken Fighters, Pikmin 3, Nintendo Land, etc. etc. etc.) ... how much can you really expect Nintendo to sink into a system that has 15-18 million users?

People should also care about the future of the company, I don't want the company to suffer just so I can squeeze one meaningless extra year out of a machine that in the long run means little to Nintendo's overall history.

Truth be told, the final year's of both the Gamecube and Wii life cycles were a total joke anyway, they just sat there waiting for the next machine to drop, what's the obsession with stretching out each platform's lifecycle to the point where it's completely irrelevant and everyone's sick to death of it? Do users get a cookie or something for that? Wii for example was on the market without a successor for waaaaaaay too long and lost a lot of its brand momentum as a result, to the point where I think the "Wii" branding is actually hurting the Wii U more than helping.

I'd rather Nintendo just ended Wii U on a high note with hopefully a really great Zelda U and transition into the next cycle much more quickly. For their own sake they need to. 4 holiday seasons of good software support is not anything to be ashamed of either, Nintendo gave it the good college try with the Wii U, if people aren't responding to it, you have to cut bait and swim away at some point.

Oh boy... here we go again. Apparantly its not plausable to believe Nintendo when they say they cant release another system until customers are satisfied with the Wii U.

This can equally be the QoL system that is not aimed at gamers. But, who needs logic when you can just bash?

The worse is that the entire Nintendo Fusion rumour came with a spec sheet that simply doesn't make any sense and includes several components with high costs. That thing would make the 3DO looks affordable. They are working on their next console right now, as Sony and MS are. Nintendo is more advanced because they launched one year early and probably are starting to discuss what it will include.

If you're not "satisified" with

A good 3D Mario, a good 2D Mario, Mario Kart 8, a good 3D Zelda, a Zelda: WW HD remake, a new Pikmin, Bayonetta 2, Fatal Frame, Xenoblade 2 (X), probably a new Metroid, Yarn Yoshi, SMT x Fire Emblem, Wii Fit U, Wii Party U, Wii Sports Club, probably a new Mario Party U (inevitable), Nintendo Land, LEGO City, Pokken Fighters Tournament, Hyrule Warriors, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, etc. (these are games we know about with the exception of Metroid and Mario Party, but I think those are safe bets to happen) ...

If you're not satisfied with that, IMO you are unreasonable as a Nintendo fan.

That's easily on par or better than Nitnendo's LTD output on the GameCube and reasonably close to the N64 days, except Rare obviously isn't around these days.

Third party support might suck, but you can't expect Nintendo to make up for all that and buying a Nintendo console you should've known what you were getting into in the first place (3rd party support has been a dicey proposition for 20 years with Nintendo consoles).

What's being bashed? And Iwata refers to QoL and this "new form of gaming platform" as seperate entities. I think QoL is going to be quite frankly pretty far removed from any kind of gaming machine (that's the whole point -- Nintendo needs profit generators removed from gaming which is an unreliable business), I wouldn't be shocked if that doesn't even have the Nintendo branding on it, but is an entirely new brand.

I have been thinking about the Fusion machine. As far as I understand your post there will be a portable part around march-april 2016, and a console part for holiday 2016. Both will make Fusion work.

In regards of the portable part I don't have a problem, but my doubt and concern is about the console part. When Nintendo release the portable part there will be games that I understand will be playable months after in the console counterpart. But how does that games will look? Aside from better framerate and resolution, I don't think they can upgrade graphics with it. Poly count and textures will be the same and it won't look very good in a 1080p tv.

On the other hand, having the portable part as a stream device (Wii U gamepad off-tv) and the game running since the beggining from the console part will mean both must launch at the same time, but with this they can release full HD games with impressive graphics. Which raises another doubt, do I need to have on my console all the time to play on my portable part? Or should it play only downloaded games? In that case, will Fusion be a digital machine like PSPgo?

My concern is if the Fusion portable will be able to play the same games of the Fusion console and it would be able to handle it. Imagine a beautiful Zelda with high polycount, impressive textures and outstanding lighting played on my console Fusion. Could I be able to play the same game on the portable Fusion?

Likely reality is that the "Fusion" platform will likely top off at visuals just slightly better than the Wii U, and portable Fusion will run the games at a lower resolution (like the Vita actually runs many games at less than 960x540 resolution even). The home variant could maybe run the same game at 1080P though. Like the same chip as the handheld maybe with 2-4x the CPU/GPU cores and double the RAM.

That's kinda where I see it going.

I think modern mobile processors should be capable of that by 2015, a Snapdragon 805 + Adreno GPU should be able to come close to matching Wii U visuals at say 540p.

I suspect the Fusion will largely be a portable platform first and foremost, the home variant will be more like a secondary thing for people who really need to play their Nintendo games on a TV (a decidely shrinking demographic) or a value accessory for portable players .

Or for local multiplayer. The preorder numbers suggest that Mario Kart is still not to be underestimated. Smash Bros too.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

No, im not satisfied with that. It's not shocking to me that i'm not a Nintendo fan, since i never was. What i am not is a Nintendo hater.

The gamecube had a much better output than the Wii U has. For example, it had multiple capcom exclusives and even a metal gear solid exclusive. No one in their right mind would be happy with the Wii U output so far. The system just started to deliver and you already want to bury it, ignoring the fact Nintendo themselves said they wouldnt. Its very "twilight zone" tireing.

These are my guesses for software splits

Wii U:

Everything we already know about (Bayo 2, Yarn Yoshi, SMT x Fire Emblem, Fatal Frame, etc.)
Mario Party U
Pokken Fighters Tournament (Namco)
Zelda U
Metroid U
Wii U Zapper Game
Mario Galaxy or Mario 64/Sunshine HD Remakes

Fusion Platform:

Super Mario Galaxy 3 (or next EAD Tokyo 3D Mario)
Animal Crossing Next (moved from Wii U)
Luigi's Mansion 3 (Next Level Games)
Ports of several Wii U titles (Pikmin 3, DKC: TF, etc.)
Paper Mario Next (moved from Wii U)

3DS:

New Super Mario Bros. 3 (NSMB2 team)
Zelda: Majora's Mask 3D
Fire Emblem sequel
Advance Wars 3DS (eShop only)

Diddy Kong Racing Returns (Monster Games?)

Few other titles, maybe some new IP

If they can have both Mario Galaxy 3 and Animal Crossing in the launch window for this new platform that should ensure a fairly solid launch I think.

I think that makes sense though, that should give Wii U enough heavy hitters through 2015 and gives Wii U owners pretty much all the major Nintendo IP and nice helping of support titles too, so I think that fulfills Nintendo's obligation there.

I think it will fit perfectly Zelda as launch title.

This E3 they show Hyrule Warriors and announce Majoras Mask 3D. That's two Zeldas. Then maybe later on the year or next E3 a Zelda HD with beautiful graphics. That Zelda game will launch with the portable Fusion in March-April 2016 and will look good, but for holiday Nintendo will promote the console Fusion showing the same Zelda at 1080p and looking impressive.

That will be great for Nintendo as sales for its software will go up, but unfortunately thrid parties will rage as their sales will go down.
