Nintendo needs to realize that they don't have or need to redefine/revolutionize the console ecosystem to be successful.

With that said, if that "revolution" means combining (but not mixing) both their handheld and home consoles IN A PROPER WAY, then I'm all for it.

Please excuse my bad English.

The quote is "approximately 2 years", not sure why Nintendolife decided to reinterpret that as 2-3 years.

I think that all but confirms an account based Fusion-like platform for sometime around spring March-May 2016. He also reiterates again in the Q&A that Nintendo is moving away from device based platforms:

"I also mentioned in January (at the Corporate Management Policy Briefing) that we would change the definition of our platforms from being device-based to NNID-account-based."

Fusion platform is coming.

I have the same feeling that they are basically hinting at Fusion, but I belive Holiday 2016 is the best release date.

I could see something like the handheld Fusion variant for say March-May 2016 and the home console/home hub variant for say fall 2016.

Late 2016 is cutting things a bit tight because they need to make a profit that fiscal year and a big one at that, and usually platforms that launch late in the fiscal year don't profit really until the following year. 3DS and Wii U will be out of gas after 2015 I think.

That sounds accurate. March 2016 then will be the best month to release the handheld part of Fusion.

Perhaps interchangeable, cross-platform systems (plural).

I'd say that's looking more and more like a lock from Iwata's comments from the last two financial briefings. He even specifically used the example of iPhone and iPad as where they want to go.

in 2015 they will be busy with QoL thing.(2015 is the earliest prediction)
in 2016 they will be busy with the handheld.(2016 is the earliest prediction)
so 2017 is the earliest date i expect. unless they launch both (in one, meaning they are fused) in the same year.

There will no more distinct console/handheld devices, they will share the same games under one NNID. Iwata has basically said so himself, they are moving away from the concept of seperate console/handheld lines.

Two years from now is right around when EAD Tokyo should be done with their next Mario platformer too ... perfect launch title right there.
