Forums - Sony Discussion - Gaming hypocrite

Recently I have stop being online friends with someone because they keep taking constant jabs at Sony. I know this sounds silly but let me explain why I can't take this person serious.

i had an xbox live friend for a very long time. He was always vocal about how much he hated Sony but a year ago it took a turn for the weird. He bought a PS3, abandoned his Xbox completely and started playing the hell outta his PS3. Whenever I questioned why he had not played Xbox in a while it was always "I've been working, I'm fixing to go back." And not only did that not make any sense, it never happened.

Then it got weirder, he bought a Vita and started playing a ton of games on that.

So as I talked to him about it he seemed very relaxed on his hatred of Sony. He would tell me which God of War games he loved, previous Gran Turismos he liked. Praised Resistance 2. He came across as very reasonable and I started to respect him for that. We probably sent 200 messages back and forth and he told me all the Playstation 1, 2, 3 and Vita games he really enjoyed.

the problem was that he started being completely two faced about it. He started going on True AChievements and just talking shit about Sony left and right. Sounding like he had been forced at gun point to play only Playstation.

"So glad I'm almost done playing my piece of shit PS3"

"Uncharted and God of War games are utter shit."

"NONE of Sony's exclusives are any good at all."

"can't wait to get back to my precious xbox."

So I tried to ignore these childish fanboy jabs but eventually it just got to me. It's like he can't help pissing all over Sony every chance he gets. Does no one else question the logic in buying and playing a console for nearly a year straight just to turn around and rag all over it? That would be like me saying "I hate Justin Beeber so just to verify that I went out and bought all his albums and listened to every song non stop for months, yep, I hate it."

I don't like someone telling me one thing and then saying the opposite around other people. This person always tells me how you can't take a certain website or a board post seriously because "this person is clearly biased so their opinion is irrelevant."  Then he shows a clear bias and expects me to take him serious? That's a joke.

So that is my question. Can you take someone's opinion on a console or game seriously when they preface their opinion with stubborn hate? Is it a valid opinion that something "sucks" if you had decided it would suck before you experienced it? Can someone be taken seriously when claiming to hate something they just spent a very long time doing on purpose for fun?

Ah yes. Friendships ruined over ones love for a video game producer. How sad.

One of my best friend says Zelda is the same every new title and I should stop buying it, yet, he bought the 3 Uncharted games and FIFA every year.

Then when laughed at the Zelda concert I said he would not understand as he plays mostly casual games. He keep silent and admited it.

We are still close friends.

I have tons of friends that can't stand Sony or Nintendo, I just grin and bear with it. If he is a true friend in everything but consoles, I would just let it be.

I wouldn't say he's a real friend. An online friend would be more accurate. I don't know him n real life. I always enjoyed talking to him until he decided to crank up the Sony hate. It never really came up, after the whole Xbox One vs. PS4 started now he can't finish a sentence without some stupid attack on Sony. We have been online friends for 6 or 7 years before this. I'll admit it is ultimately my fault for not having thicker skin.

I don´t have any real gaming friends, I take my game friendship fix at Vgchartz in the forums and that is it. Play online once in while, but do not give a shit about who is on the match.
If the dude is a loser, ignore him man, who cares?

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Well, if you believe he's worth it, just tell him you decided to stop playing for a little while bewcause of some life issues (not really true, but a white lie is alright once in a while, eh?) and so you unfriended a bunch of people, and just ask him if he wants to be friends again. If he starts badmouthing Sony, just grin and bear it after :)

Last year I played Windwaker HD, Skyward Sword and Link Between Worlds. They are all dramatically different. Sure their are core similarities but that's about all. Plus they aren't yearly like CoD or FIFA.

In his defense I would buy a dozen Uncharted games, one after the other, and probably never get tired of them.

Your friend should feel bad for buying FIFA every damn year!

That's why indifference or mild appreciation for competition is the best way to go. Also, continue calling him out on it and see where he's coming from.

Sounds like he enjoys trolling on the internet. I'd say you take the console war too seriously if you take offense to some internet posts, especially if they weren't even personally directed to you.

He knows the exact reason I deleted him. But nah, we'll both be happier if I'm not reading his crap and he isn't hearing me bitch about it. I just wanted to vent it for good and wondered if anyone else knows gamers who act hypocritically like that. Say one thing but do another and whether or not it is blatantly obvious to anyone else.
