LOL There are people in this world who view a stage performance to be more captivating than a video (many). Almost every electronics brand goes through it. Nintendo just walked themselves out of tradition. Its obvious that Nintendo did not have enough content to fill a full show so they prepare 30-40 minutes of film. How anti-climactic and boring.

That wholly subjective and frankly very immature way of responding clarifies much. Thanks.

Don't care. They can go either way as long as content is good. I can see the appeal of live though, hardcore gamers would miss things like skittles, wii music and wonderbook.

i agree. crowd reactions comments are kinda of weird to me though. i don't get it. do people get excited because the crowd is excited? are they let down because the crowd is let down? i could care less about crowd reaction, which ever method delivers the best results. Let it be all about games. i could care less to see every developer and publisher on stage going "blah, blah, blah, blah". about the tech the specs and the manhours. Get to the games. i'm old enough to know what i'm interested in.  i was born before the 90's. show me what you got i'll let you know if i like it. Either method would do.

I vote press conference, so long as they don't screw it up. The press conferences are televised, and cna reach a larger audience. This is Sony/MS/Nintendo's chance to expose gaming to the general public. The size and scope of the Nintendo directs are very small, and they don't get the press coverage that the conferences used to get.

Yea right, so many votes to the digital event , why not end E3 ?

Exactly, Nintendo fans follow Nintendo so blindly that their wishes for the companies to follow Nintendos method would negate the grand nature of E3 itself, which take away its centerpiece. People would be better off watching the pre-taped videos at PAX if this was the case. E3 is an event where viewers are watching and judging the developersand publishers  based on what they have planned for the year.

i could care less about a developer/publisher. i judge games. i don't care who makes them. until they stop by my house and thank them personally for purchashing their game, it will stay like that. If they cared about gamers e3 would be opened to all the public at no cost with free refreshments. I make unbiased judgements when it comes to games. i own all 3 next-gen consoles because i play video games. not playstation video games, xbox video games, not nintendo video games. just video games. If you don't own a system i think it's stupd to make comments on it. try all of them i promise you'll find something you can enjoy on either system.

Take care not to make sweeping generalizations.

Hardcore/forum gamers need something like this if there is no live crowd.

Yeah because there's no way we'd know what publishers and devs have in store with a digital event. Lol.

Grand nature of E3, lol, oh my God. Please explain that more.

I guess watching a conference is WAY better than watching fans battle in a tournament of an unreleased game, and playing E3 demos themselves at local Best Buys. There's no fan reactions, LOL!

A lot of Nintendo fans seem happy that Nintendo is going the Direct route and skipping out on a press conference again, I'm curious if Sony and MS fans would support a move like this as well.

Happy as in "rocking back and forth saying that it is ok and simply a change" rather than the result of a huge failing on Nintendos part.

More happy as in "prefering to watch a Digital Event, seeing a Smash tournament, and go play E3 demos near where I live than watching guys in suits explain why x game is "next gen" and needing reassurance of my console purchase through people clapping over a game I know will more than likely be a cut and paste third or first person shooter that gets 70's or 80's scores by critics. It won't matter what they score it though, as long as they say how "awesome" it looks at E3." That kind of happy.

Everyone commenting on this all over the internet will be watching this at home. In front of a screen. As such, it doesn't matter whether it's a live conference or a pre-recorded one. In fact, for this audience, a pre-recorded one has more benefits over a live one, as there won't be awkward glitches or mistakes. The only people who ought to prefer a live conference are the journalists and other such attendees at E3. And their number is negligible, in all fairness.

There is no thrill in a pre-recorded conference. At E3 industry people react on behalf of fans, try out the games and report back to us. with Nintendo there is no grand preview, its just them telling us whats what without a proper live demo or anything. That can be done at any time and even the non E3 Directs are lackluster. E3 is a grand show and Nintendo excluding themselves from it seems funny.

There is no thrill in 'live' presentations. Those are rehearsed beforehand as much as prerecorded shows, and even then often wind up embarrassingly awkward and chock full or errors. Even so-called 'live' demos have often in the past not been live at all. Kinect's unveiling 'demo' comes to mind, and there are many more such examples.

People at E3 do try out Nintendo's games and report back to us. Nintendo is at E3. It's just the initial conference - the starting presentation - which isn't done live. All the games and demos and showfloor-hands-ons and booths and accompanying stuff are all there.

Honestly, these reasonings of yours hold no water, at all.
