Whew, just finished reading the entirety of that silliness. The easiest rebuttle is this one:

1) It's a blog. From a guy. Just some guy.

2) His description of his blog: "I’m Daniel Eran Dilger, and I write about technology, Apple, motorcycles and the place I call home: San Francisco"

Sooooo this is the analysis of some guy who happens to be an Apple fan, a notoriously rabid lot even by VGChartz standards. Not saying there isn't some valid information in there, just pointing out that this is clearly tilted analysis.

I'm not about to read all of that article, but skimming over it reveals a few more interesting things:

1- He's an Apple fan, however he uses the term "Reality distortion" to criticize Microsoft. If you don't yet see the irony in this, read this page.

2- He's using the death of HD-DVD to make it seem like Microsoft got a big blow from it, when in fact Microsoft has barely invested in HD-DVD at all.

3- Correct me if I'm wrong, but he doesn't discuss Microsoft's financials and cash flow in an article which is supposed to prove that Microsoft is dying.

Game, Set, Match. this thread should have died 50 posts ago

HD DVD isn't Microsoft, it was just backed by Microsoft in order to slow down Sony.

I heard they are making 30 billion a year? or is that an understatment?

And that's the only thing I need is *this*. I don't need this or this. Just this PS4... And this gaming PC. - The PS4 and the Gaming PC and that's all I need... And this Xbox 360. - The PS4, the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360, and that's all I need... And these PS3's. - The PS4, and these PS3's, and the Gaming PC, and the Xbox 360... And this Nintendo DS. - The PS4, this Xbox 360, and the Gaming PC, and the PS3's, and that's all *I* need. And that's *all* I need too. I don't need one other thing, not one... I need this. - The Gaming PC and PS4, and Xbox 360, and thePS3's . Well what are you looking at? What do you think I'm some kind of a jerk or something! - And this. That's all I need.

I think you guys are taking the "Microsoft is dying" line a bit too seriously. Read the article and take it for what it is. Ignore the title, as it was only intended to create controversy and elicit page views.

And Blu-ray isn't Sony, its the Blu-Ray Disc Association made up of 200-some members.

well, microsoft understands we shouldn't be FORCED to buy a new format.

I've been burned my sony's Very VERY VERY breakable umd discs, sony should make all games dl-able since their discs don't play if the case is f***ed up.

Also, toshiba isn't part of microsoft..... So the thread has failed and is trollsome.

WRONG .In fact MS want to make its propietary software embedded in the hardware you buy so you are forced to pay for it even if you would like another option . As for the thread ,its clear MS isnt dying right now .....but the article is very good nonetheless .

Hey Diomedes, what's up in Portugal?

ms is at a cross road. they aren't agile enough in the internet market. the only thing they have is os (granted it makes them huge piles of cash), but if someone can even truly break in, then ms is in huge trouble. linux and apple are trying, we shall see if they can succeed.

my pillars of gaming: kh, naughty dog, insomniac, ssb, gow, ff

i officially boycott boycotts.  crap.

MS jumping in with HD-DVD was a bit of a loss they will probably bring out a blu-ray player add-on sometime next year.
But the addon will mostly appeal to people who allready have an X360 with HDMI.
Having 2 seperate boxes with extra cabling shelf space etc means that as a blu-ray player the 360 is worthless which is why the HD-DVD add-on did so badly.
The PS3 with it's built in power-supply and built in blu-ray it's very compact and quiet- it may not sell equally just as a games machine but it will own the overall sales as a combo blu-ray player/games machine.
Other than this minor loss MS is still reaping money from the monopoly they command - i run linux myself though windows is good too.
