Hello. I thought I'd share the high point of my day with you.
So I was browsing again looking for a way to get sound out of the Wii U and into my headphones. This was probably the biggest issue for me with Wii U, that it didn't have a dedicated audio out. I was always looking for AV receivers/audio splitters online and was dreading the fact that I had to shell out more money and had to switch the audio cable between 3 consoles then, so I even thought about a dedicated audio switch for my 2(and soon to be 3) consoles. It all sounded just awful with that much of extra devices. I already hated plugging the audio cable between my PS4 and PS3.
Then I found the Neogaf thread about it and learned that there are TVs that apparently have optical audio outputs. I stood up, walked to my TV and had a look behind it. And wouldn't you know what this lucky guy found? I plugged the audio cable from my PS4 into the TV and switched on my consoles and changing the audio output options on them and the TV. And it fucking works fantastic.
My specific PC and gaming setup has all audio sources tunneled through my PC into my headphones. I even bought a sound card with an optical in port just for this purpose(using a second sound card for the output). Using my TV Pretty much solves every problem I ever had and ever will have with sound and gaming:
- no constant cable switching between consoles
- no additional devices for splitting or receiving audio
- no manually switching off the sound when I switch from gaming to PC(now the TV does that for me)
I feel really really stupid for not realizing this quite obvious method earlier and I can already feel the shame and laughter from you guys but I just had to share it. Now there are pretty much no reservations for me to finally get my Wii U later this year.
So how about you? Anyone else using other audio devices than their TV for their consoles?
